Hi everyone,
I had my first ABVD treatment on Tuesday. Just as everyone said, it was fine and the nurses were lovely. No need to be worried.
I felt absolutely fine yesterday, I even did a bit of work but I then had a dreadful night and I feel like I can barely function today. I have slept and slept and my body feels like lead and I have a headache. I just wondered if this is something others have had and is normal?
Thanks in advance,
Jules
Hi Jules,
yes sadly that’s common, but sleep/doze away and you’ll feel better soon. It could well be a result of steroids (often added as they enhance antinausea meds) which give you a ‘feel good’ factor to start with but then their effect wears off and you feel exhausted.
keep a tally of how you feel in a journal which you can take with you to the next session, it will help the nurses decide on meds next time too.

Hi Jules, fatigue is like the weather up in the Highlands - you can get all the seasons in one day....... just go with what your body is saying and put your feet up when you need but at the same time keep some activity going as this actually helps over come some of the fatigue.
Some useful links.
Hi again Jules,
i ‘liked’ your post as I felt you were reassured, not that you felt wiped out! Take your time, nobody should expect you to sail through what is, in effect, a poison, without feeling something!
if you’ve family around then do ask them to help out. If friends offer help, accept it, if you are able while shielding! If possible then get anything you can get delivered that will help you to cope!

Hi Jules,
Glad your first treatment went well . Tiredness does tend to be after a few days .. and it’s hard even to do the smallest task . I can remember not being able to unstack the dishwasher , too tiring .. but that only lasts a few days then you should start to feel better and have more energy so just take it easy when you need to ..soon passes ..
take care

Hi Jules,
Sleeping has always been a good treatment as it lets the body relax and heal.
My husband completed his second session yesterday of ABVD chemo, and he has been on furlough since the end of March. He's gone from an active job to staying at home and found he was getting tired then, so now he's even more so.
I'm working from home, but find I do a lot more for him as sometimes he can't even sleep a couple of hours at night, but I am encouraging him to take naps in the day. So even if you set yourself nap times when you know you're going to be most tired and slowly wean off them to get a full night's sleep again.
Tiredness is awful when you're trying to leep a normal life, but you've got to take care of yourself more, and snuggle up with a good pillow.
Take care,
CW
Thank you. I have still managed to sleep at night even if it’s on and off although this last week when I Felt almost myself I have had some really good nights sleep and not needed any during the day. It’s difficult with a 3 and 5 year old as well!! I hope your husband is ok. I have had my second treatment today.

Hi Jules
just rest as and when you need, not easy with youngsters but rest when they do! (Hopefully they do?!?)
housework can go hang!
