I went through twelve rounds of NIVO AVD ending May 27, 2025. I am currently not in chemotherapy and I am in remission.
during chemotherapy, I got really bad toe pain. Left and right big toes. It is the top right and left corners of each toe.
I have done antibiotics and bacitracin, also soaking in epsom salt.
the pain is to the point where I hit my toe on anything, and it hurts so bad. By anything I mean I will even hit my toe on my comforter, and it hurts. Like pressure hurts. It’s red and obviously angry.
Has anyone had a similar experience? Please give me some advice on what it is/what to do.
Hi lindseyH and welcome to this corner of the community.
I did see (for a short period) that you had put up some photographs but the Macmillan Community Team have taken these down as certain types of photographers are not allowed on the site.
Although I have lived with and been treated for 2 rare types of T-Cell Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for over 25 years during my main 2 years treatments (late 2013 to late 2015) I did have periods of Peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage) that affected my hands and my feet….. and I would say that at times even wearing shoes and even the weight of bedding would be painful……… this went on for a good period of time after my treatments were completed.
But I also developed ingrowing toenails resulting on n an infection……. my GP gave me antibiotics and arranged for me to be seen by a Podiatrist who fixed the issue…… so it would be worth getting this checked out.
Hi - I kind of had the same for many months after finishing chemo, however I always put it down to the nails growing back again and just growing in 'the wrong direction'. Every time I hit my toe with anything it would be very painful (on the outter side), I was trying to cut my nails as much as possible to prevent this, but I should have gone to a Podiatrist like Mike... So I finished treatment Jul 2024 and I have been fine for 2-3 months now. I am playing football again and it doesn't hurt at all, but my first couple of games around June were a nightmare.
I had neuropathy and lost a bit of sensitivity on my fingers, especially the thumbs. I didn't notice the same effects on the toes but perhaps this was also a contributing factor to this pain.
Hi Thehighlander - did your neuropathy go away post-treatment? I have developed some in my fingertips in the past week (am on cycle '3 now), and a little toe pain from cycle 23 (that has went away since).
Hi KotC_Gorey yes the pain eventually went away but not immediately as it takes some time for the effects of treatment to leave the body and not the body to recover……. I had PN during and after my main chemo but also after both my Allograft SCTs.
