Delayed treatment

Hi Galquestions19e346 and a warm welcome to this corner of the Community although I am sorry to hear about your daughter’s diagnosis and your concerns. I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups. 

I don’t have Hodgkin's Lymphoma but for some context about me. I was officially diagnosed way back in 1999…… although I now realise I had most likely been living with with my rare (8 in a million) incurable but treatable type of Skin (Cutaneous) T-Cell Lymphoma……. for much longer.

I eventually reached Stage 4a in late 2013 when a second, also rare (4 in a million) type of aggressive Peripheral T-cell lymphoma not otherwise specified (PTCL-NOS) was then presenting so although my Lymphoma ‘type’ is different I most definitely appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.

I can understand your concerns…… but be assured, delays like these happen to most people….. it happened to me three times lasting a week to just over 2 weeks……. and it made no difference to outcomes.

The time between treatments are often seen as a basic guide for scheduling but there is definitely space in the schedule for delays.

In way of some encouragement……

I was 44 when I was diagnosed in 1999 age 44 when our daughters were 14 and 18…… but we went on to see our daughters graduate, get married, set up very successful businesses and provide us with 4 beautiful granddaughters….. I turn 70 at the end of this year and I am coming up to 10 years since my last treatment.

Hello - sorry for the delayed response but just thought to add to this thread. Delays are common as Mike says. I think on the first cycle they generally go ahead regardless but for the rest they do keep an eye on the counts. I had zero a few times but they sort of balance the risks I guess for each person and I went ahead anyway. 

As she had a good response then the risk is even lower. Good luck with the rest!

Good morning. My daughter is 7 months out of treaments, in remission with a ds2 on final pet scan. She recently developed a random dry tickle cough and in the morning her voice is kind of slightly raspy for a bit. She isn't concerned about it, could it be a environmental issue or a relapse.  As I said her ds was 2 and she had bloodwork that came back good 1 month ago and had her port removed 3 weeks ago

Great to hear that your daughter is in remission….. she is not immune from other health issues coming along, indeed she will be more open to issues due to what her immune system has been through….

My Consultant always said that I had to get anything new checked out during the first year or so post treatment….. if it was anything that was symptomatic of Lymphoma that had to be called into my Heamatology team…… everything else was to go through my GP.
