Hi everyone,
It's been a little while since I have been on here thought I would share some good news after my relapse earlier this year. I found out last week that I am now officially in remission!
After 6 cycles of ABVD, my HL came back during treatment after a negative interim PET (very unusual apparently). I knew something wasn't quite right as had been getting pain near my sternum and it felt a bit itchy and sensitive there, just odd. Sure enough the end of treatment PET showed uptake in that area. I was convinced I would be going straight to a stem cell transplant, but instead they decided to do salvage radiotherapy to that one lymph node site and 2 cycles of GEM-P chemotherapy to kill off any stray cells.
It felt like the worst feeling in the world at the time as I could not face more treatment and it's the fear of the unknown, but it has finally paid off. I wanted to share this news to show that a relapse doesn't always mean a transplant - it depends on your circumstances - and that even in the very unlikely event it does come back, it can be dealt with!

....... the thing is, it’s so true.
Watched a few Americans get caught up in the middle of this - one of the funniest things I have ever seen
Congratulations on getting back into remission.
I actually had my end of treatment PET scan yesterday. My haematologist said he wouldn't contact me unless there was a problem. So far so good but I'll probably call Friday if I haven't heard anything.
I must admit I am slightly worried about it, although like you said I know it's very unusual to have a complete interim response and not a clear scan at the end.
It's good to know there are other chemos that can be used in such cases so thanks for that. I'll read up on it at some point.
Congratulations again and enjoy the holiday season, sounds like you more than deserve it.
Mike
