Hi

My daughter has relapsed HL And has researched the benefits of Mistletoe therapy. She is about to undertake 2 weeks immersion before starting chemo.

Has anyone any experience of doing similar?

  • Hi Fifi Mo, sorry to hear your daughter relapsed. I did a quick search on the site and Mistletoe Therapy did not get a hit.

What chemo will she be starting?

Mistletoe therapy is an anthroposophical medicine and can be integrated with conventional cancer treatments.

It needs to be used under the supervision of a medical professional to ensure that effectiveness of chemo treatments are not reduced and to look out for adverse reactions. From what I have seen, Mistletoe therapy does not replace recommended cancer treatments.

  • Hi has she discussed this with her haematologist ? as its important a) they know and b) it will not have a negative effect on the chemo she will receive.

As I have no medical training I cannot comment on whether this is the right thing to do but I would suggest she takes medical advice as the are lots of false treatment options being offered out there especially now people can promote their alternative treatments on the internet.

I did find this from the BMJ and she should use legit medical sources to inform any choices she makes and this article advises not to use it

then you have this from Glasgow suggesting its ok

and a USA one, which still raises issue and is a 2019 paper

hence the advice to discuss it full with her medical team.

You can also ask a nurse here on the Mac site and they usually reply within 48hrs

I cannot remember anyone ever posting about using it.
