Hello all, I haven't been on here a lot in the last 12 months or so, but you were all a huge support for me in the first years after my husband's treatment for tongue cancer. He had a T2 which turned out to be a T3, a failure of his original free flap replacement after surgery (so now has a fixed flap), 6 weeks of radiotherapy and adjuvant chemo. We were told the probability of him surviving for 5 years after end of treatment was just under 50%. Well, 5 years was last Friday, and he has had no recurrence. He is still working full time, and enjoying life, although with modifications to speech and eating. We realise the 5 years is just a convenient statistical milestone, but it still feels good.
So, thank you all for helping us to get this far, and good luck on your personal journies.
Great news, thanks for letting us know, party time!
Metastatic SCC diagnosed 8th October 2013. Modified radical neck dissection November, thirty-five radiotherapy fractions with 2xCisplatin chemo Jan/Feb 2014. Recurrence on larynx diagnosed July 2020 so salvage laryngectomy in September 2020.
Brill news give hope to the rest of us who are in various stages of recovery or treatment.

Base of tongue cancer. T2N0M0 6 weeks Radiotherapy finished January 2019
I am only four years clear, and my hospital says they are now going to discharge me although they only see me twice a year. At my last appointment I asked them to look down my food and wind pipe with the special cameras they have for this which they usually do. They said because of the corona virus they have stopped doing it. Is this the normal now.
I’m not surprised. I am only 20 months out of RT. I haven’t had a scope since January. My next oncologist appointment is next month. I have been assured that if I want to be seen I will be. I want to be seen.
