I've had a sore throat for a while now and recently swallowing has become more difficult so last Monday I called my GP and explained. Given my history he put through a two week referral on the spot and I had my appontment this morning (had to be screened for covid on Tuesday). Consultant found an "abnormal small growth" on my supraglottis and said he wanted a scan done asap and a biopsy under general within two weeks.
Gloomy thing being he said that if it was the cancer back there were very limited teatment options because I've already had the full set. Anyway what wil be will be. They did the full pre-op after I saw him so don't need to go back in for that; might have to dust off the blog!
Oh mike I have fingers and toes crossed for you. Hopefully the doctor is just being super cautious.
good luck. Xx

Thanks people but weirdly this has cleared my head a bit. All through the covid stuff my wife has been really struggling, I've already talked about my guilt at messing up her meds and I've not been right mentally for a while...now somehow I have a focus. Bizarrely I feel like the "strong one" in the family of five kids and ten grandkids again, something that's always been my role. Lockdown had me diminished if I'm honest, it took effort to even leave the house; my son was my saviour a lot of the time coming out with me for walks/drives (though he never knew how fragile I was).
Today has made me stronger however the dice fall in the next couple of weeks. Actually spent some time earlier looking at two-seater convertables in case the news is bad and I need to enjoy what time I have (don't tell my wife). That said I'm going nowhere yet!
Metastatic SCC diagnosed 8th October 2013. Modified radical neck dissection November, thirty-five radiotherapy fractions with 2xCisplatin chemo Jan/Feb 2014. Recurrence on larynx diagnosed July 2020 so salvage laryngectomy in September 2020.
Hi Mike. Sorry to hear you’re having investigations - it’s what we all dread. But - lots of reasons for a small lump, it doesn’t have to be bad news, especially with all the treatment you’ve had in the area. Scar tissue, nodules, treatment effects.....
Interesting that you feel stronger now than you have recently, with something to be strong for - good for you. PLease keep yourself busy while you’re waiting, uncertainty is so awful, we all know that. I’ll be thinking positive thoughts for you - discovered from a recent post of yours that you literally live a few miles from me (Willand? - I’m just the other side of Wellington!)- so sending you my positive energy too, it doesn’t have far to go!
Hope the RD&E gets everything through for you asap and you quickly get good news.
Hilary
Hi Mike,
Recurrence is what we all fear most. Hopefully this turns out to be a false alarm. Would surgery not be an option if it was something?
I took my pension early & bought myself a 2 seater soft top when I finished treatment & it puts a smile on my face every time I get in it so perhaps you should go for it whatever happens .
Fingers crossed for you a positive out come.

Thanks all again.Hellebore1 yes we're kust down the road from you, visit Wellington quite often, it's a nice town and wife likes Waitrose. We've always planned one final "retirement" house move and the area has always been on our shortlist (don't you think the monument looks amazing with all the scaffold up? Looks like a rocket launch pad!)
retired47 good for you with the car Wendy! I bought an Audi A3 soft top when my mum died in 2017 which was great fun and the grandkids loved it (two small rear seats were fine for them) but sold it last year as wasn't really using it enough and it was a lot of money to be sat on the driveway.
Doc didn't mention surgery but RT and chemo are both ruled out so would seem to be the only option if they're able to get at it (IF it's recurrance which is obviously still an if). Be interested to hear if anyone has experience of this.
