Hi all,

I am 5 months post radio/chemo for base of tongue SCC.
progress for me is very slow. I still am fully dependant on the RIG and it’s getting me down that I may never eat or drink again.
Speech and language have told me to only try sips of water until I have another swallow test.
I am really struggling with even sips of water it just comes back up to my mouth/nose. Any advice?
I’ve had a course of steroids which has really helped with the pain so that’s amazing but I would just love to know that I will get there with eating and drinking.

  • It does take some time and effort...I was PEG dependent for some months, lost the will to eat and drink, my wife, CNS and dietitian were immense in helping me on the road to eating solids... very small portions to start with... gradually built up to normal sized portions...I now enjoy most foods and drinks... alcohol free...an alcohol free Guinness was one of the first things I could tolerate... and taste.
