Hi

Not been on here for a while as to be honest was struggling with the thought of having a rig fitted .

Well had my fitting two days ago and got home yesterday.

I'm still a bit anxious but it's not as bad as I had thought.

Radiotherapy and chemotherapy starts Monday.  But for now I'm continuing to put on weight.

  • Hi Abrn, good news you have the peg fitted and pleased it went ok as they normally go ok , just take each day as it comes and deal with any issues as they come and if you suffer any pain please ask for painkillers  , we will try and answer any concerns you have , you will find that having the radiotherapy is not that bad and you will find its over quite quickly. Good luck for Monday ,take care .

    Hi.

Just wondering if anyone else has been uncomfortable after rig fitting.

It was fitted Wednesday and still very swollen and can't lie flat or straighten up right.  I'm due for radiotherapy Monday and a bit concerned about lying flat.

Just taking paracetamol as not really in pain wondering if it's just a confidence safeguarding thing

    Any advice

  • Hi there,

It took me about two weeks before I could move fluidly again after my RIG was fitted, so you're experiencing a similar thing to me.  I spent three weeks sleeping on my back with pillows under my knees after my op, because I rally didn't like the way it seemed to drag sideways if I laid on my side.  It will improve, but if you feel any pain, redness or heat around the wound site, or have any kind of discharge, then you should tell your team straight away.

    Best wishes,

    Josie

    Hi.

Thankyou for replying.  I don't have pain as such just niggling and  cramping . It's just really uncomfortable

Don't know how I'm going to get on with lying down for radiotherapy on Monday

  • Hi,

You'll be able to have a pillow or a bolster thing under your knees, which makes a massive difference.  The only part they are worried about is from your shoulders upwards - what you do with the rest of you is totally up to you, as long as you can stay still!

    Hi.

That's ok then hopefully I can get from sitting to lying back that's the bit I'm struggling with.

It will get better and easier I'm just safeguarding myself I think when I have to use my stomach muscles it feels as though it's pulling

  • If you have a Rig I can't help but if it's a PEG check that it's not to tight as when I had mine to tight it got very uncomfortable so I ended up with it a little looser then recommended.

  • Hi Abrn, this is quite common practice with a rig but not so much with a peg , with a rig they put stitches in to hold it in position so this could be causing the discomfort . The peg has no stitches and is/or was the most common method as its quicker and simpler to fit but if you have trouble laying down or breathing the rig is fitted . Think positive my friend Slight smileBest wishes .
