Finished radiotherapy last November having had part of jaw removed, flap fitted and nodes taken out of neck ,was just wondering if anybody on here could tell me ,either when or if swelling to inside of mouth will ever go ...
Btw had all clear 1st June
Good evening Aries64, i have had much the same done as you in my second operation where quite a bit of my lower jaw was replaced with a bone from my leg with skin grafts /flap and tissues from other parts of my body. The swelling in my mouth went down very quick and i would say by 4 months it had settled down nicely, i did have to have the gums cut back a bit as they grew a bit too much so after a couple of trim backs all was good. I had mine done in 2009 and have had no real issues, i would speak to your consultant about it as you might need some of the skin/gum cut back or looked at. It could be linked to your lymph node drainage system as the lymph nodes/glands drain infected areas so as they have removed some it could be building up liquid. All the best and hope your consultant can sort the issue for you, please re-post if you need more help, take care.
