Hi Folks
Just trying to squeeze in a quick post for anyone out there with knowledge of how the NHS hospital services work.
Hubby has a face to face appointment 2moz at the hospital that took on his care in January this year following his unhappiness with the hospital consultant where he received his initial cancer treatment. This hospital is 'out of area' but they agreed to take over his care. This is where he recently had the radical neck dissection operation, which ended up with him being on a permanent feeding due to unsafe swallowing following op. He was also told his cancer was incurable.
Suddenly yesterday he had a phone call from a hospital receptionist attached to the team trying to cancel the face to face appt, reason given was that the consultant had imparted all the information that they had whilst he was in hospital so the appt was unnecessary.
To his credit hubby stood his ground and said he had a number of questions for the team to answer and that whilst they may have given him information at his bedside he had just recently had a major op and doesnt remember most of what he was told. The receptionist said that she would leave the appt in place and not cancel and he should attend as arranged.
We find it strange that as his is under their care and that no other appointment has been made i.e. six week check up after op, or further follow up appts in clinic that the team were trying to cancel. He feels that he has been 'abandoned' by the team, especially considering they know that he is not prepared to be treated by the first consultant at our local hospital.
Where does that leave him and what rights does he have? Anyone with knowledge about how to deal with this we would be very grateful. I will check back later this evening as will not have time tomorrow before going to hospital.
Cheers folks

Hi Margaret not what you need. As far as I know under n h s patients charter the patient can choose where to be treated. From memory our daughter told me that can’t contact her she’s in Anglesey on holiday. Just remember her saying in didn’t have to go to Leeds I coujd have gone to Sheffield if I wished. Go tomorrow stand your ground and Say you need to be in with him as he is finding it difficult to take all info in.
Hope this helix H xx

Hi Margaret
I was treated at a hospital out of my area and there has been no problem with continuing with all my care.
I agree that you and your husband should both attend the appt tomorrow so that you can support him and be an extra pair of ears to understand what the treatment plan is. At the very least there should be a specialist nurse assigned to your husband to help with his support.
I do.hope you manage to sort things out tomorrow.
