The op I may have to have is taken from lymph nodes both sides of my neck taken out.

Lung problems so have to be London Marston.

Please can you be honest and tell me pro and cons of op and how it effects you.

  • Hi I have no personal experience of lymph nodes being taken out But during my treatment a lady called Emma aka Newleymarried be friended me .Her hubby had 35 radiotherapy sessions and 6 chemo but the lymph nodes were still showing reactive ie cancer cells. He had from memory 32 lymph nodes taken out, 12 days later they got married (the wedding had been booked prior to all treatment ) .Today 4 years in he’s very much alive and living his life. Again this isn’t personal experience just someone who I have met on several occasions , the scars now are barely visible they were done in his natural lines on his neck. Hope this help he was 49 at the time .No underlying health issues Hazel x

  • Good evening Mummy13, i had lymph nodes removed from both sides of the neck and to be honest it has not affected me at all no swelling afterwards but i believe that some people can get lymphoedema for a while due to the change to the drainage system as this is what the lymph nodes do, they drain liquids so when some are removed it sort of confuses the system for a period of time but on the whole, most people do not experience this. Best wishes.

  • Hi like chris2012 has found I have had no problems with lymph node removal.  Although only on the right of my neck, and I'm not sure how many they took, but it was a 3 hour op to remove them.  When I asked about possible downstream  issues I was told that I have so many that the ones they took will quickly have their function taken over by others.  That said, I would say that the op did affect my saliva and I need to frequently drink water.  Not really an issue for me.
