After a month's daily radiotherapy and a 12 week gap,I go for my long scan on Wednesday 5th,13th for results, not expecting good news.

  • Can I ask why you're not expecting good news ? I've been on and off the site for a short while so I may have missed something you've said previously, if so apologies for that.

Hi I've still got the lump under my tongue and it's looking cancerous, plus I have all the pain back I had before,on morphine every 4 hours.

  • Radiotherapy causes considerable scar tissue so your "lump" may well be just that, and the pain can take a long time to go away as well; easy thing to say but try not to worry too much although I know it's not easy. The 5th is a big day in our house as my wife has an appointment at the hairdressers and she's ecstatic at the prospect after such a long wait but I'll take time out of the festivities to think of you.

  • I think it’s common to feel and think like this.

But more often than not the cancer has gone.

    Sending hugs Hugging

  • Crossing everything for you. I think its hard to not be pessimistic, despite scans showing no distant metastasis i constantly worry it has been missed.

I think after treatment the area tends to be hugely inflamed? perhaps that is what you are seeing?

  • Trev please don’t stress about distant metastasis with HPV 16+ cancers it’s extremely rare for any distant metastasis to occur other than in the neck lymph nodes which are doing their designated jobs. The scans are good at doing what they need to do .Hazel xx
