base of tongue cancer last year, recovered well everything good to be honest, but as were all aware it doesn't take much to get the old anxiety kicking in

any input greatly appreciated

  • I'd certainly phone GP to get advice if I were you Totolemar, or get in touch with your specialist nurse at least; you can't be too careful (as I'm about to demonstrate in a new thread).

  • Hi,

I had something similar at beginning of year which was biopsied & came back as dysplasia. I was given the option of watch & wait or have it excised. I opted for excision.

Hopefully yours will be something similar. Fingers crossed

  • Evening Hazel ,

Hope everything's good with you, seeing consultant in ENT clinic Monday, so was lucky in that sense, thought it might have been telephone job so no doubt he'll put me right.

Not painful, just feels like when you've burnt your tongue with eating something hot,so then I thought I,ll check mouth out visually and that's when I saw white spot on underside of tongue.

Its mad ,been feeling my neck etc since we went into lockdown because obviously haven't seen anyone since March and other than a bit of lymphodema been rest assured everything's fine, even thought I may have burnt my tongue as I do use mustard a lot or have a curry hotter than used to because it tastes better for me now .then I thought I know I'll stick my tongue out cos they always ask you to do that at follow ups and low and behold saw the little blighter !

Pre cancer you wouldn't think twice you'd say it was an ulcer or such, but now you magnify it till its checked out, anyhow its weekend so going to try and park it and keep busy.

Hope everyone's ok,positive vibes to brandygirl and mike o,

    Cheers hazel

  • Hi Martin

am good thank you like everyone else no face to face appointment since Mid February have had 2 telephone consultation s with next one being October again telephone I am fast approaching 2 years post radiotherapy now how time flies. Of course each ohine call it has been reiterated that any doubts I had to ring. So pleased to see you’ve got in in Monday and the system does work. Am sure like you say utsnith7nh but best to get checked out. I occasionally get the odd ulcer if I introduce something new mine though are almost always on inside of cheek or on front gum. I use an iced counter preperation  called iglu it’s sticky but clears up within a day and they e never been in same place. On other hand I am impressed hot curry’s bigger person than me I can’t even do a mild korma ! Occasionally a small amount of mustard on a beef sandwich .Let us all know after Monday’s and take care you are fast approaching your first year aren’t you ?

    positive vibes to everyone’s

  • Hi Everyone,

just a quickie, saw consultant and turns out spot was caused by tooth rubbing against tongue, apparently teeth get a bit brittle after radiotherapy, anyhow that was good news.

Also as not being seen since lockdown had old camera up nose down throat etc and everything good, seem him next in ten weeks time so things moving in the right direction.

rang dentist who I was in the same boat ,last seen before lockdown and they're currently looking at end of August before they start on the backlog from March !.

Anyhow got squeezed into next week once I explained situation so all good.

anyhow on a completely different note does anyone have this situation, get a bit of good news ,happened about three/four times now, feel great on the day, mebbe even elated and then within a day I feel down, like someone has says yeah that's great news but what's next..

I struggle to pull myself out of this fugue, work helps as within three days mebbe it's gone to the back of my mind and  I carry on but it's like I put a downer on feeling good and looking forward to the future .

its very weird, have thought mebbe go to dr,to get referred to psychiatrist, but God knows now, the waiting list must be thru the  roof or do I just live with it and put it down to after effects of cancer and having to adjust to a new norm.

really what I want to know is will I prescribed drug help or just keep going..

probably my mantra for a long time has been expect the worst hope for the best which probably doesn't help but that's just who I am..

do I see a shrink or not......Upside down
