Well I had my mask made today and got a start date for Radiation Treatment which will be for 4 weeks. This was previously planned for 6 weeks, alongside Chemo but with the Covid 19 virus around my Oncologist explained that my immune system would be so depressed that if I got the virus that there would be little chance of me surviving.
No feeding peg, dietitian or speech therapy either so we're winging it. I'm lucky to be getting any treatment at all in these worrying times so I'm grateful for that.

Good evening Shelly , great news you have got a start date for your radiotherapy, a lot of consultants have been saying the same about the immune system becomes depressed, so it's not worth risking. Maybe because your treatment period is shorter they hope a PEG or feeding tube will not be needed, let's hope so. Hope you found the mask fitting was ok , quite enjoyed it as it felt like a hot towel over my face . All the best for your course of radio, take care.

Hi Shelly
I personally know of one other lady who has just started her RT. No PEG for her either. She will get a nasogastric tube if she needs it. I had one at the end of week 3. Takes minutes to put in. Not the most pleasant thing but not painful. I had a lot of nausea with my morphine so did throw the tube up once. Easily enough replaced after that days RT.
The xrays are the mainstay of treatment with the chemotherapy adding 5% to cure rate. The chances of you dying of Covid whilst immune suppressed are much higher so that’s why they stop chemo.
Good luck and keep asking as time progresses. There’s a lot of sensible advice here.

Hi Shelly56
Glad to hear your treatment is going ahead.
As chris2012 says, you might manage without a tube if you’re having less sessions.
Who knows? Everything is a muddle right now isn’t it?
I hope it all goes well for you and please keep us posted. Xx

I'll take any help I can get so will def ask for the drinks. I start treatment on the 13th all being well and can't wait to start. Hopefully I'll not need a tube but they can put the nasal one in if I struggle.
Thank you to you and everyone for the support.

4 weeks!
Lucky you
My oncologist told me they vastly over cook HPV oropharyngeal cancers. 4 weeks would be so much better for all of us.
Wonderful. Keep going You’ll be fine.

Hi Shelly,
I had 6 weeks chemo and radiation ending 20th December for HPV+ tonsil cancer, no peg or nasal gastric, Personally everything was okay for the first 4 weeks, other than the rank metallic taste from the cisplatin then the loss of taste completely. I just kept on eating as best I was able all the way through. Stay positive you can get through this. I think in a way because we are all so different in the way we react to the treatment they are always winging it!
Be strong you'll be amazing and get past the rough stuff,
Kevin
