Hi All
l am finally in last week of treatment, 5 more RT’s to go. I am currently on paracetamol and just gone up to 10ml of morphine and also using the nebuliser. My voice is down to a light whisper. I have found the pain has really gone up a notch this week, mouth feels like it’s on fire and skin has started to breakdown on neck. Has anyone else had good outcomes with any other painkillers at all which may help me get through the last weeks, even finding it to painful to swallow water.
Thank you in advance

Hi Ali
I had paracetamol, ibuprofen and oramorph plus Difflam mouthwash and spray to anaesthetise my mouth and Oxetacaine and Antacid Oral Suspension to anaesthetise my throat. I think different painkillers work better for different people though.
Nearly there Ali.

Ali2020, I'm with Linda with the painkillers as I had virtually the same, my main painkiller is, and still is oxycodone in liquid form , like Linda I used Difflam to help control the pain inside the mouth. To help with skin breaking up I just used aqueous cream which did the job for me, then once it healed I used Bio-oil or others with vitamin E in them, well done in getting so far, you are near the end now so hang on in there. You will get there, All the best, take care.
Chris
I’ll back up Linda and Chris here.
Morphine worked for me and at your stage I was on long acting morphine morning and night and 10mls Oromorph every four hours plus paracetamol. Difflam helped but I couldn’t hack the oxytecaine as it just made me heave.
I was on overnight pump feeding through the NG tube so just played around with food in the day. There were days when all I took orally was carbonated water or dilute Pepsi. I just couldn’t be bothered with the effort.
Don’t suffer. Ask for something stronger and take it on a regular basis. Pain is better dealt with before it breaks through than trying to damp it down in an ad hoc basis.
Good luck. One month and you’ll be well over the hump.

Hi
At this late stage Ken was taking all fluids, food and meds through his PEG.
He went from Cocodamol and oramorph to long lasting morphine twice a day, topped up with oramorph if necessary.
initially he was on 20mg morphine and then for the 2 weeks immediately after treatment he went on to 30mg.
He was a bit drugged at times but it was very necessary.
For the broken skin on his neck he had Flamigel and those very expensive dressings that made a collar.
Once he finished treatment he was given Flamazine cream to use instead.
He didn’t take anything orally for over a month. Even now, 9 weeks later, he’s still just on soups and milk puddings etc. He drinks 2 Fortisips a day to keep up his nutrients.
Hope this is helpful.
