My husband has recently been diagnosed with a small tumour at the base of the oesophagus and starts chemotherapy next week.
Could anyone tell me how the radiotherapy is administered, please, is it in a machine like a scanner?
Hi,
My mum is currently recieving radiotherapy, firstly your husband will have a scan to give them precise location of the tumour then they will put some markers on his chest (which last a few months) so they can line him up on a machine that looks a bit like a large gun off a bond film. Then each day he will receive approx 20 mins of treatment that will just feel like a scan.
He may experience some discomfort after a week or so but really that's just the treatment doing its job I suppose you have to think. My mum has to go every weekday for 20 mins a day for 5 weeks so please be prepared for the appointments. Hope this helps a bit, and hope it goes well for your husband.
Regards
Chris
