Palliative care patient

Hi My dad has terminal esophagus cancer and is now a palliative care patient, doing ok, considering.

A week or so ago, his left foot became swollen and only when laying down his legs hurt real bad from just above the ankles to just below the knees, when sitting down the pain subsides. We went to the GP they were not sure if it was because of the cancer, they are pretty sure it's not DVT.  Has anyone had any experience of this? When walking now dad's left foot is dragging.

  • Hi

Sorry nobody replied earlier, I am not familiar with your dad's type of cancer since my wife's is quite different.

One thing I can emphasise with though is the worry about something being related to the cancer or indeed the treatment. Of course we all know that having cancer does not somehow protect us from all the other stuff out there so well done for going to the GP. My wife was concerned recently she might have some peripheral neuropathy with pains in her foot but the doctors don't think that is the problem.

    <<hugs>>

  • Hi Penny I am also in palliative care for Oesophageal Cancer. 2 months. I have no swelling in any limb (so far) but I know that people who have treatment sometimes suffer with similar. Has your father been prescribed any medication. So far I only take a paracetamol for relief from discomfort in my chest. Could it be due to a medication he has been prescribed?
