I'm

Due to have Radiotherapy and brachytherapy what are people's  experiences of these treatments.

  • Hi , I just came across your post and see that you have not recived an answer yet - sorry.

I have been through over 750 hrs of chemo and 45 radiotherapy sessions over my treatment but my journey will be completely diffrent from what yours will be like.

I would always say talk with people on the same cancer type journey having the same treatment. I see that you are in the Cervical cancer group - this would be the best place to ask these questions as posting in this group will open up your concerns to a wider group of people who know exactly what you are going through at the moment.

  • Hi Scotia

I don't have personal experience of this treatment but if you go on to the Jo's cervical cancer trust website & forum there are ladies who have had/ are having the same treatment. I hope that you will be able to find some support there

    Hugs

    Hello lovely !

I start my radiotherapy Monday and my chemo start date is Thursday , so I maybe in a better position to let you know after xx

My pre planning was ok , they marked my body up , I have had to take an enema to empty my bowels , I have to have my bladder full and they give me a contrast through my picc line ( long term cannula) which made me go warm all over and have me the sensation , that I had wet myself . Didn’t last long , perhaps 3-5 minutes .

I have had my in-depth chemo chat . Told me the do’s and dont’s . Told me all the side effects .

I just feel incredibly overwhelmed with all the new information as well as the Coronavirus information that I’m being given daily .

The pre planning is fine . Just a lot of waiting around .

    hope this helps xxx

Hi scotia,  I finished treatment 3 weeks ago which consisted of 5 Chemo, 5weeks of radiotherapy and 3 brachytherapy. Everyone symptoms are different as I found speaking to people. I had nausea constantly and struggled with my bowels due to all different pain relief but the consultant and nurses are fantastic and because your there 5 days a eeek there good st getting medication changed. I had good days and bad days although at the time I felt it was going so slow it actually went fast. I then had brachytherapy which I was concerned about but really my worries were for nothing it’s an lengthy procedure but you don’t feel a thing after first session i bled and had abdominal pain similar to period pains but next morning was absolutely fine. If you have any specific questions please feel free to send me a message. Wishing you well on your journey x
