Finally collected my new drugs Capecticibine I'm suprised to see I have to take 500mg tablets 4 twice a day! So 8 tablets total of 4000mg per day for 14 days! Anyone else on such high amounts? I start today so first 4 after breakfast not had a good night been awake since 3!
Thanks for reply I collected them yest from the hospital after being weighed and measured. I am told they work it out from that
Hi
Capecitabine at 4000mg is what they term dose dense and as you guessed the dosage is worked out by using your BMI.
The 2 more common 'dose dense' tablets regimes are 4000mg for 7 days then 7 days rest or for 14 days with 7 days rest.
I guess they are trying to hit this hard at first to see how well you tolerate this dose level and adjust it down if needed ? The tablets come in 500mg and 150mg sizes.
Hope they are kind to you, G n' J
Thank you I am just forcing bfast b4 I take them!! I was thinking that might b the case but it's good to get reassurance thanks again
I've just finished cycle 7 and I also have 14 days of tablets and then a week off. I take 5000mg a day so 10 tablets. I find breakfast the hardest bit as really not wanting to eat at 8!!
Good luck with it all
Hi
Yes I know what you mean about breakfast!! It's a lot of tablets to get down as well! You are doing well cycle 7 I look at the big box of tablets and think another box after these! How far through did you get a scan? I have had a quite a worrying gap between Paclitaxel chemo last one was 21st Nov and only started this treatment yest! My last scan showed cancer was growing even after all the 18 chemo sessions.
Sending you Best wishes
I was scanned after 3 months, and it showed stability for the first time since my journey started. I've had 4 types of chemo and targeted treatment which didn't do its job and now we are on this. It seems my cancer is a bit of a nightmare as it acts like triple negative but pathological it's Er receptive.
I'm hoping at some point (hopefully a look while from now) when I need to change they will be able to try triple neg meds as normal ER+ chemos don't seem to be effective on me.
I've just started my week off so excited to not have to take them!!
P.s don't forget to get moisturizing. It takes a little while for dryness to kick in but if u start now it shouldn't be as bad. X
Thank you for the reply im just tackling bfast! ! B4 my 4 tablets had to wait for cuppa this am as take weekly alendronic acid! Have had a slight headache since starting tablets.
I had been using moisture cream while on Paclitaxel so will carry on with that and extra on feet and hands. Thanks again for your advice
Hi
Hope you have a large cup They recommend you have a min 250ml of water with alendronic acid tablets to ensure they clear the oesophagus.
If this isn't done over time the acid can damage it.... J was on these for 5 years, luckily with no probs.
