Hi all
I have beem on Ibrance 100mg and Letro\ole for MBc for appprox 5 months. 3 weeks ago I has a mild stroke and was started on Atorvastatin and Ibrance was stopped AT same time. I met with oncologist today who wamts me to restart Inrance at same dose.
I voiced my concerns at some reports that these 2 drugs did not interact well also I queried whether Ibrance may have contributed to the clot that caused my stroke.. Oncologist aougfht to reassue me that no clear contraindication beween these 2 drugs and that no evidence Ibrance caused strokes.
Do any of you take Ibrance and a Statin or received any medical advice on this combination ? If so what has been your experience
AS bad as my situation is I dont want to compromise my health further. My oncologist is experienced and well qualified but I renain quite worried about this treatment plan.
Hi
I'm not on the combination of drugs that you mention but I noticed that your post had gone unanswered.
If you type 'statin' into the search bar in this group it brings up 7 previous conversations which mention this drug. You could perhaps take a look through them, if you haven't already, and see if Ibrance was also taken.
If you're still not sure that taking this combination of drugs is right for you may be a phone call to your CNS might be a way forward and then a further chat with your oncologist if your CNS isn't able to address your concerns.
I'm also tagging this Community's Champion into my reply as he may be able to help further.

Im on Ibrance & Letrezole 7 months now, plus Zoladex injection once a month, Ive been ok and just started on bone infusion, im getting headaches and cramps but other than that, touch wood ok, poor you though - how are you know? Hope you get support and advice you need, you want to trust in what your being told/advised but its all so overwhelming sometimes isn’t it. Wishing the best for you.
Morning
Hiya, just found the 'heads up' from latchbrook but must admit to not knowing about Ibrance with Letrozole and statins. J was taking Letrozole with Atorvastatin but had Chemotherapy with Herceptin.
From what I have read on the EMC site blood clots are listed as a side effect of Ibrance but there isn't any documented containdications between Ibrance and Letrozole from trials so appear to be OK together. I couldn't find statins mentioned so perhaps any interaction trials between those hasn't been carried out ?
If your oncologist is convinced you have got over this blip and wants to continue after your break from it, you could ask about a lower dose (I think there is a 75mg version of Ibrance) and see how it goes from there ?
If you want to check Ibrance out you can find the Health Professionals and Patient versions of product information at EMC here. You can also lookup your statin but the search only accepts actual drug names.
Hope this is of some little help, G n' J
Hi, don't know if this is relevant . I started taking Letrozole and Ibrance in July, I have been really well and on 3rd September I went on holiday to Antalya in Turkey. My oncologist was happy for me to go and said it would do me good. We were due to fly home on the evening of 13th ( Friday) but late on the Thursday I suffered a massive heart attack! I was rushed to hospital and had emergency surgery. To cut a very long story short, all my cancer medication has been stopped and my oncologist has referred me to a Cardiologist before I can continue treatment. Last week I spent a full day at a Cardiovascular unit where I was told I have a clot in my heart which I am being treated for and that some cancer drugs can cause the blood to thicken and possibly cause clots.
I'm not sure if I want to continue treatment now as I have never had heart problems before and the whole experience has terrified me
HI Jubel1
Thank you for your reply.
What a frightening ordeal you have been through and being abroad at the time !!
I completely understand your caution about continuing with Ibrance after your heart attack. In my case I am very nervous as following my stroke I was put on a Statin drug and there is some evidence these do not interact well with Ibrance. As much as I want to safeguard my health I have some feelings that oncologist may be taking a bigger risk with me given my breast cancer prognosis.. Although he represcribed Ibrance a few weeks back I have not taken in but am continuing on Letrozol. I have arranged a further appointment with him on 14th October when I hope to get further info and clarification from him.
I have prepared a detailed list of questions this time and I want to understand the risks and likely sidefeffects of taking these drugs together so that I and my family can be prepared .
I am sending you love and light.

Hi Maggie,
I will also be preparing a list of questions for my Oncologist, I don't see him till 22nd October which means by then I will have been off my medication for about 7weeks ,slightly worrying given that my diagnosis is terminal. I was also taking letrozole and ibrance but like you I now have to take a statin drug along with aspirin and blood thinner for at least 12months .
I feel like I'm in limbo now and just want to know where we go from here
Please let me know the outcome of your appointment.
Wishing you all the very best

Hi Julie
I will certainly let you know outcome of appointment. Please let me know how you get on with yours.
Are you off Letrozole as well as Ibrance at the moment ?
It is scary to be off Ibrance. As only treatment on offer aprt from Letrozole. I was reading somewhere there is some evidence that a break from Ibrance can effectively reboot iis effectiveness.
What a bloody journey this is !!

Hi Julie
Saw oncologist today and suprisingly my scans were stable and tumour marker dropped although I have not taken ibrance since 30 Aug. - Just Letrozol.
I raised all my concerns and questions about restarting ibrance and he was very patient and understanding and took time to go through all research trials findings .- none of which contra indicated taking statins with ibrance. Also reassurred me that a lot of his patients are on statins and hsve not experienced adverse reactins between the 2. drugs
As regards potential for clots and strokes he emphasised importance of drinking lots of fluids with ibrance and said although some risk of pulmonary embolism no evidence that ibrance increased risk of stroke. He recoomended I go back on it but was not pressurising. I also had clinical nurse there and she was also supportive of this.
I have decided to place my trust in his advice and I am due to restart Ibrance on 23 Oct. I will let you know how I get on. I am still undergoing investigations re cause of stroke and am due to wear a cardio monitor for 24 hrs . Like you i have not had previous heart probs and ecgs etc have all been okay
Please let me know how you getwith your appt with oncologist.
Sending you lots of love and light.
