Hello all. I have been invited to go in for a covid booster jab. I’m guessing it’s because of the cancer diagnosis and treatment. I have booked to get it but I’m just wondering if people are taking up the offer or not. Best wishes.

  • I have been invited for a covid booster every 6 months since I was diagnosed in 2022 but since finishing chemotherapy I've been told each time that I no longer qualify. In which case why do they keep sending me an invitation?

  • I received an invite but was told that I’m not eligible as I haven’t started radiotherapy yet. I think certain medicines on your records trigger the invite then the person administering has to double check you meet the rest of the criteria

  • I get them too, it'sRose probably just a computer doing it. I had it because I'm a carer. My husband who is 75 has just been invited. We both had COVID 2 mths ago and both recovered well. Xx

  • Glad to hear you both recovered well after catching COVID a couple of months ago. I caught it about 3 years ago but was lucky that for me it was just like a mild cold.

  • Ok, I’ve tried to clarify this today. After my husband was turned away, he had an appointment with our Practice nurse today who told him he SHOULD have it as he lives with me. Feeling confused, I rang another pharmacist who gave me an explanation I’m satisfied with. “MOST” people receive enough immunity from the autumn booster to protect themselves and others for about a year ( like the flu vacc). But those with compromised immune systems, are protected for around 6 months. Now we should be ok living in the same house as someone who has had an autumn booster but not around people who don’t have regular boosters ( or who are unvaccinated). So we are the ones who need boosters every 6 months. I take regular public transport, & have grandchildren who have never been included in the programme, so I’m going to continue with the jabs. However, if anyone under 65 lives with someone who’s immunosuppressed, they should get the autumn booster. Hope this clears things up a little

  • I always worry that my kids are going to bring covid home and how would we manage. But will cross the bridge if we ever get there I guess.

  • Went with my husband for his covid booster today and the person there said I was eligible as I was living with someone who had a weakened immune system and therefore it was important that I have the booster as well so that I didn't bring it into the house.

So have now had booster Slight smile

  • Hi Wave

I have just checked with my oncologist if it’s ok to have my Herceptin injection on Wednesday, Covid booster on Friday & start radiotherapy the following Tuesday & was told that is fine to go ahead with all of this.
Hope this helps & good luck with the rest of your treatments. Pray
    Xx

  • For anyone previously invited, and then refused, as I was. I saw a walk in jab van yesterday in supermarket car park, went up to it and asked and they gave me the booster instantly! They didn’t want to see any proof at all, and no quibble at being slightly more than 6 months past end of radiotherapy.
