Hello

I wonder if anyone else has had radiotherapy previously?  I had mine 12 years ago and the breast is still incredibly painful. I am worried that the same will happen this time and I will have 2 very painful breasts.  Apparently there isn't any problem with the breast and I'm told it's just one of those things that can happen.  Interested to know if anyone has had similar results after radiotherapy and managed to treat it.

Best wishes to everyone going through treatment now. x

  • Hi

I had radiotherapy just over 3 years ago and although it's not painful ordinarily, if the dog climbs on my lap and puts her paw there or the OH gives me a hug, it's extremely painful.  I haven't unduly worried about it as I've had clear mammograms ever since.

When you say 'the same thing will happen this time, do you mean you've been diagnosed with BC again in the other breast?

    Best wishes, Lesley

Hi, I had a mastectomy 2 years ago followed by radiotherapy and have pain in my mastectomy a lot of the time, it also radiates to my back on the same side at times, I was diagnosed with post mastectomy pain syndrome, basically the tissue, muscle and cartilage in between the ribs in that area are affected by the RT causing inflammation. I have had a steroid injection into the site, for 4 months it was so effective I was pain free, may be having it again in a couple of months, I also been prescribed Lidocaine Patches which cover the mastectomy site, you put them on for 12 hours and then have 12 hours with them off, in between I use Ibuprofen Gel.  In Sheffield there is a late effects Clinic for issues following BC treatment.

Speak to either your GP or BC Nurse.  Best Wishes.

  • Hi Lesley

    Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I’ve just had surgery on the other breast + mammoplasty this time. I will be having RT too.

    best wishes
