Hi
I am 33 year old with 2 young children.
2 weeks ago I started experiencing excruciating pain in my right breast. I had no lump but the breast was red and swollen. After a visit to my GP he told me that I had an infection and prescribed me antibiotics. 4 days into the course the pain was getting worse, my breast was starting to change. I now had a lump and my breast felt extremely heavy and also had a movable lump under my armpit.
I visited the A&E as I was concerned the antibiotics were not working and I was in constant pain. Consultants and surgeons at A&E examined me and changed my antibiotics and did an urgent referral to see the breast clinic. 2 days later I went to see the breast clinic with the hope of just a ultrascan.
I came out having a ultrascan, mammogram and couple of biopsies. I was told whilst having the biopsies that they had concerns as physically they could feel a lump on my breast however in the ultrascan or mammogram no visible lump was present. They said I had thickened tissue and that they were concerned and also cancer was mentioned but I was too overwhelmed to understand what they were saying. I had never attended the breast clinic before let alone have all the tests done on my first visit.
My results are due on Monday and I was told not to google anything on the internet.
I had a look on the internet and some of my symptoms relate to only one thing - inflammatory breast cancer.
please can someone tell me if they have been in a similar situation and what their outcome was?
Hello Plant Lady
You must be incredibly anxious and fearing confirmation of cancer. The message which comes through loud and clear through cancer treatment is that everyone is different, and that’s certainly the case.
I was told my small lump on my rib down from my armpit was a fibroadenoma. It was biopsies as a matter of course, and those doing the biopsy said that if they felt it was anything suspicious, they’d say, and they felt it wasn’t. My lump fooled everyone.
If medics can get it wrong in that direction, I am sure that google can get it wrong too. So please, take the advice from your hospital. Wait until they can talk through your results with you. Take a friend if possible, and ask the friend to write notes for you because you may well not be capable of remembering details yourself. The clinic may have a breast nurse who can do this for you (mine did).
I know it’s easy to say try not to worry, but really, DO try. It won’t change anything, certainly not for the better x
