Good evening everyone,
I hope you are all well. I am a 40 year old mother of 3 young children who was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer 5 weeks ago. It has spread to my lymph nodes and I also have at least one area of DCIS (early stage breast cancer) in the same breast.
I start chemo on Monday and I have been offered the cold cap - does anyone have any experience of this? Is it worth the pain, discomfort and extra time I will have to spend in the chemo suite or should I just accept the baldness?
Also does anyone have any good tips for getting through chemo? This is all new to me so any advice and pearls of wisdom gratefully received!
Many thanks x
Hi and a very warm welcome to the forum. Sorry you find yourself here but it’s a great place for support and shared experiences. I can’t help with the cold cap but there’s a special chemo thread in a different section here. If you go back to Breast Cancer Forum then go into the Questions about treatment section, there’s a monthly chemo thread. People post elsewhere about chemo too but that thread always seems to be quite busy so I’m sure someone there will have some of the pearls you’re looking for! I’ve read different accounts of cold capping over the 2 years I’ve been on the forum but haven’t any firsthand experience.
Sounds like you have your hands full with 3 young children so do take advantage of any practical help offered although these Covid times are not helpful in this regard.
Sending love and a big virtual hug, and I’m sure others with advice will pop in soon. HFxxx
Hi
I am also 40 and have 4 children. I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer about 5 weeks ago also and just had the lump and lymph nodes removed getting my results 23rd December. I am not going for the cold cap. I don't really know what to say but I been reading these since I found out but when I read yours it just seemed like me. I am terrified if I am honest and feeling really low not sure how to cope with all this really but I too would love some tips for chemo and all of it really. I hope you are doing well through this x
