Hello, i was diagnosed 2 days ago and have no words to tell you what i am feeling. The breast surgeon gave me the news that the biopsy report taken from a lump

in breast showed a cancer and cancer in lymph nodes under armpit.I was a wreck and was so upset that he didnt really say anything else other than he will arrange a CT scan and blood tests to check for further issues.Today i looked at my health record on the NHS app and it states that i have grade 1 ductal cancer on one side and grade 2 ductal on other side with a high grade DCIS. Please help me understand, i thought that DCIS meant it was contained in the milk ducts and not grown outside the breast tissue? so is the armpit duct involvement a different thing?

  • I was diaognosed with grade 2 breast tumour and DCIS o+ with a lymph node affected after biopsies very early Jan.

The next few weeks will be full on as the hospital will want to gather as much information as possible to plan how to treat you. TBH it can be extremely stressful and Ìt is absolutely okay to reach out for support. You should have the phone number for the breast care nurses you can call. I was such a mess I wrote to mine to ask for extra support.  I found the relentless short notice appointment-phone calls very hard.

once information was in I was referred to oncology for chemo pre surgery., again l lost Ìt in the clinic but the staff spotted and provided me with a quiet space to wait and lots of reassurance. Once the oncologist worked out just how much l was struggling ( mix of delayed grief due to covid wiping out my family plus trauma plus anxiety) they moved heaven and earth to access me drugs to slowly start to help and have insisted the chemo ward provide me with a lot more support to the point my husband has been allowed to stay with me. It is okay to tell the doctors how you feel.

You are allowed to feel what you feel, it’s okay to call the support line, it’s okay to use the forum. I found my local charity run cancer support centre that is no where near the hospital is slowly proving to be a sanctuary as they have organised counselling for me. My Breast care nurses signposted me there. It’s also okay to contact your GP.

Be kind and gentle with yourself. Even if you suspect you are going to be told you have breast cancer Ìt still comes as one hell of a shock.
