Hi All,
Just been diagnosed with Breast Cancer, 52 and about to go on the roller coaster nobody wants to queue for. Trying to stay positive and embrace the journey as opposed to following the path of denial and fear. I know it’s hard but trying my best. Seeing Oncologist tomorrow morning for first consultation. Taking it day by day and hoping treatment of Chemotherapy will allow me to continue working with minimal impact and colleagues knowing, manager and HR aware but want to keep it quiet at work as much as possible. Thinking of you all who are on the same path and read to fight the battle.
if anyone has tips for how to minimise or manage chemo side effects please let me know.
chemo is like many things everyone reacts differently, Ask for the best anti nausea meds you can get.
I had one i took 30 mins before and had no real nausea
buy sour candies and avoid favourite foods unless you feel ok,i hated processed food, like curries, drank pink lemonade.i craved red meat so ate a lot of burgers. pizza was gross to me
some people like bland for me it was a no, you will get tired, take care of yourself and you do not need to tough out anything, always tell your team how you really feel,
I didnt work through my chemo but i know women who did, we also ate out sometimes, tried to live as normal a life as possible, for me chemo days were just boring, the first ones are always the scariest.I hope you get nice nurses.
buy some good moisturiser and i was told to paint my nails and keep the out of the sun.

Hi
ask whatever questions you have in your head. Take each day as it comes no two people with cancer are the same. Do what’s good for YOU. Thinking of you.
Well meeting with oncologist went well, better idea as to what is ahead, been given the choice as to what I want to do regarding Picc or Port, thinking Port as summer is almost here and also seems easier to deal with daily. Does anyone have feedback for me regarding a Port?
Getting a CT Scan on Tuesday so now emotions high again but hopefully no more bad news that it is elsewhere as been told it is Stage 2A. Also any recommendations on Shampoo and Conditioner?
yes get a port, it has its own annoyances but so much easier as no water worries or weekly flushes, mine was always a tad pinchy but most have no issues, hurts at first but settles and so much easier, i also demanded blood tests use the port as i have tiny veins and blood draws are a nightmare.
i was stage 2a as well, shampoo nope, but after i lost hair who cared, honestly it was kinda nice not stressing over it, buy some good quality jojoba oil

Hi! Glad your oncology appointment went well.
I would recommend Faith in Nature shampoo & conditioner as it’s very gentle. Are you going to try using a cold cap?
Re the port…I believe it is the best option in the long run BUT I was not at all prepared for the procedure or how painful it was for a good few days afterwards - you may be fine but just to warn you. I had mine fitted last Friday and it’s finally settling down today but it’s still very bruised!
The waiting in between scans etc is awful - nothing anyone said could put my mind at rest so all I can say to you is I hope they don’t find anything else and that you don’t have to wait too long for the results.
Hugs to you xx
