Hi does Anyone have  any suggestions on what to take for the hot flashes, I’m taking a lot of evening primrose oil capsules and have just bought a lady magnet , just thought I’d see what other ladies have found to be good

  • Hi , hot flushes have been horrendous for me and I have tried pretty much EVERYTHING, from the ones you have mentioned to even antidepressants, which DID work for a while, as did the magnet! But then they returned RageRage! Sadly I just seem to be one of the unfortunate ones whose body hasn’t appreciated being pushed into early menopause and boy is it fighting it EVERY step of the way!

So I was then pointed in the direction of acupuncture! First it was acupuncture given in a group session at my local Cancer centre. They used needles that were placed in the outer edge of the ear! I had heard good things about this and some people in the group had been there before and were there for a top up session after many months of it helping with their flushes! Sadly this didn’t work for me!

Although the acupuncturist asked if I would like to try a proper session of acupuncture. I was desperate, nothing else had worked for longer than a few months, so I was willing to give anything a go. It wasn’t cheap although she kindly offered me a reduced rate. Well after a few sessions things slowly got better and better. After living with hot flushes/night and day sweats and I mean dripping with sweat! I suddenly found I was going for a few hours with no or very few and mild hot flushes! Then one day I realised I had been able to go in and out of 3 shops WITHOUT SWEATING or even getting warm!! It just felt amazing!

Then LOCKDOWN happened and I slowly felt the sweating and flushes returning Cry So for me it at least showed the acupuncture had worked and it wasn’t that my body had suddenly stopped the hot flushes, which I had wondered!

However I am now back to having Acupuncture and after just two sessions I saw improvement. It seems to be getting a bit better each session, so fingers crossed I will be back to being hot flushes and night sweats free very soon!!

IF the magnet/ evening Primrose Oil doesn’t help, then acupuncture is certainly worth a go! What I will say, from experience, is don’t give up! You will have people telling you that it doesn’t last forever and that your body will settle down, which is great and true for some! But sadly for others it is more long term! BUT having said that it doesn’t mean you will be stuck with them forever! So NEVER give up hope! You WILL find something that helps you! So keep trying!

I hope you find a solution that works for you! Sending you cooling vibes. Sal xxxxx
