Pain in leg after Zoledronic acid infusion

I had my first Biophosphate infusion last Friday,  was bedridden with bad flu- like symptoms all of Saturday, but felt OK from Sunday to Tuesday,  when I felt a bit tingly Iin the head then my scalp was extremely itchy for hours.  On Wednesday I developed right leg pain,  which became progressively worse as the day went on,  so I had to take painkillers and eventually lay down as sitting or standing hurt. I spent yesterday in bed, getting up to the toilet and for drinks, and took painkillers all day so as not to cry out in pain when I stood or sat. This morning it still hurts,  but has spread to my hips. I'm going to call chemo this morning.

Has anyone else had issues with it?

  • Hard to say about SE of Zoledronic   .

I had my first back in Nov alongside no 4 EC .

No leg pain as I recall but felt rough for most of cycle (day18) Onco said it was build up of EC . As she expected little SE from Bisphosphonate .

Have to say still feel rough on day 24 of last (no6) EC . She most prob right .

I think Bisphosphonate made me feel tired and flu like but will have to wait for May to give true judgement .

Had first Herceptin injection on weds. Minor headache and fatigue still hanging around .

Hope you get issues resolved soon

  • Thanks Margaret.  I'm on Letrozole a well,  though haven't taken one since Wednesday to see if it was that,  but don't think so. Texted the hospital pharmacist,  who asked about painkillers and thinks it's the infusion.  Raff that apparently it can cause the thigh bone to break without impact (!) and also severe leg pain for weeks.  Fingers crossed it's neither a back at work next month and would like to spend this time building myself up,  not in bed feeling worse than on chemo!

  • It's so frustrating isn't it ,the waiting game again !! Waiting to feel better !

Onco tells me mid Feb before chemo out of system ..then get chiropodist to look at toe nails coming off, dental and optician . So Feb/March is body repair month lol then hopefully discover new normalRofl If  Herceptin 3weekly and Bisphosphonate 6 monthly can be called normal RoflJoy

Very sunny today but freezing so going to see what I can get done in garden ,before fatigue sets in .

Man coming this month to lift grass and pave rear garden so easy maintained . Job today empty water butts and move . Also check new fruit trees covered against frost .

One Xmas present from son and daughter was same man to come and cut grass at front in  2020 .

so looking forward to sitting on decking in summer

  • I was told 2-3 months as well, so the Letrozole and Zoledronic acid are having a party with the chemo! No wonder I'm falling apart now! I also think there's something not right from the PICC line site in my chest ad I've now had a pain there for thee weeks. I went to Scotland by train twice on chemo, and today I'm wondering about a bus up thr road to meet a friend, even on painkillers!

Your garden sounds lovely and very well managed. Let's hope that we have a good summer. Once chemo started I missed sitting out and reading in the garden unless in thr evening.  X

  • Hope you feeling a bit better yes my high sugars have joined the party lol

Getting a bit achy now which I was warned about with the Herceptin.

Meant to say your are taking Adcal or something similar aren't you ? Whether you are or not ask Onco what your reading is might put your mind at rest about bones .

If you remember I started high with 50 ..registrar shocked last week after a month of Adcal reading is. 78 apparently nobody ever gets that high . So not too worried bout bones at minute lol
