Hi
i had a wire guided WLE with dye and nuclear therapy about a month ago for oestrogen receptive grade 2 lobular Brest therapy. All going well and the surgery showed a good margin around the tumour. I’ve started anastrozole treatment and seen my oncologist. As expected I have also been recommendied for 15 days of radiotherapy.
my oncologist did say that technically I don’t need it, it’s just what they do to really make sure. Given how expensive the treatment is and how stretched the NHS is should I have a further discussion about whether I should have radiotherapy? Has anyone any evidence that for someone with early stage breast cancer that was removed and hasn’t spread to the lymph that it does actually have benefits which outweigh the risks, costs and inconvenience?
ive signed up for it but would welcome views so I can change my mind?

Morning food lover,
I have grade 2 lobular breast cancer, diagnosed in November, mascetomy in December. Clear margin and lymph nodes. Just waiting on onco dx test to see if chemo will be useful. I was told three times by consultant I would have it but now not. Apparently lobular behaviour is so different from other breast cancer, it doesn't respond well to chemo and also you have to fit certain criteria on your specific tumour for radiotherapy. Read my post confused treatment plan on the breast cancer forum for interesting replies. How are you doing on the anastrozole, I've been given tamoxifen which is apparently the least effective for our type of cancer. I've yet to start it and will discuss this with my consultant.
I wish you well x
Hi , your treatment is very similar to mine - WLE, node sampling (clear), Anastrozole and radiotherapy. My cancer was a different type but same grade. My understanding from the oncologist is that the post-lumpectomy radiotherapy brings the chance of recurrence down to the same level as if I'd had a mastectomy. I did ask whether that was an option but I'd already had the lumpectomy and he said in any case a mastectomy would be regawrded as 'over-treatment'. So I went for the 'nasty tabs' and the rads. I have had some post rads issues and ongoing fatigue from the hormone therapy, but feel that I'll do pretty much anything to have the best chance of keeping the beast at bay! And luckily I have discovered walking is my main sanity saver - free and gets you out!
Good luck with the rest of your treatment, it's amazing how quickly the 3 weeks of rads goes once you start. Gentle hugs, HFxx
Thankyou everyone for your comments and good wishes. I have been very impressed with the care and support I have received and decided that I would prefer to over treated rather than the risk of the cancer coming back.
i had my CT scan on Monday and start radiotherapy on Wednesday so here goes.
adjusting to Anastrozole and having a cold/ d and v virus is challenging. Not sure what symptoms are side effects and which are virus so just wait and see.
good luck everyone and thankyou. Hugs to you all xx
