Does everyone else feel constantly thirsty after chemo? I wake up several times at night parched and seem to be drinking constantly during the day too. I notice if I don’t drink I feel even more tired and unable to think so keep drinking for now...

I'm with you! Am on 5th EC cycle (of 6) and of late have a thirst that I just can't quench with any liquid of this world. I also wake throughout the night for drinks (and blummin random toilet visits too).
I believe that its a really healthy thing to drink lots of water/water based drinks ( as long as not too much sugar!) as its helping you expel the chemo and dead cells from your body. You don't say how much you're drinking? Worth checking how much is too much as you can dilute the good stuff (yes there may be some left!) too much.
Drinking water does, amongst many other fabulous things give you energy so your point re being tired doesn't surprise me.

Hopefully no6 EC on weds (delayed from last week ) Feel like the water bottle is an extension to the arm lol It sits on bedside cabinet overnight so every time the wake up call for toilet visits arrives I n replenish fluid
Like you I believe it keeps energy levels up and flushes system .
when water tastes like thru the day I have discovered no added sugar dandelion and burdock and cream soda at Morrisons . Lovely taste but not too much cos of additives .
SEs. Still manageable even with first Bisphosphonate added at no 4 ,but nausea lasting longer with each cycle can't wait to finish with that SE . Herceptin injection next in Jan .
Keep well

Thank you both, reassuring to see it isn’t just me who has a water bottle permanently by her side! And with you on the nightly drinking too! I used to drink very little before chemo so I guess at least a healthy habit I might keep longer term...
I think it's normal as my unit said chemotherapy does "dry you out" but maybe mention it if you're waking up at night and peeing lots because (I'm sure it not!) It can be a sign of type 2 diabetes xxxx
Hi
unfortunately nausea is common on EC I'm due no 6 tomorrow . If it continues to stop you drinking or eating or you vomit tell your team ,they can change your anti sickness tablets .
I found in the early cycles the nausea only lasted about 4/5 days . It is a case of trying different things your taste buds change and things you used to enjoy taste foul .
Try ginger and lemon tea or other ginger infusions . I carry a water bottle so I can constantly sip small amounts . Morrisons sell no added sugar lemonade etc .
I also eat fluid as in home made leak and potato soup made with stock cube so in effect taking in a lot of fluid . Jelly is good as well . Ice lolly or sorbet helps to freshen mouth .
Sorry can't give you a definitive answer it really is a case of trying everthing .
Once I realised It was nausea rather than actually vomiting ( I was never actually sick ) I made myself eat little and often ..weirdly enough I feel better when I eat .
All I can say is hopefully you over the worst now .I kept a diary so I could see the pattern of SE then you can plan for good days
You can usually get a feeling of new normal around day 15 as you build up ready for next cycle .
hope you feel better soon

Hi Julius
I’m on my 1st Cycle of EC - and I also found i was extremely thirsty & dry icky mouth. And felt really sick the first 4 days. I drank squash, peppermint tea and ginger tea .... these helped (was totally off tea & coffee) !! I just couldn’t do plain water .... I actually vomited in the night on day one 5 times. Had to get a jab of anti sickness to stop it :(
ive asked the oncologist to subscribe something stronger the day before chemo ... so let’s see how that goes !!
Round 2 is on Monday !!!!! Let’s do this ....
And thank you @Margaret for your advice - I will try some of those tips
Big warm hugs xx
Roni
I found soup really helpful as well, you get your healthy veggies, easy to digest and liquids! Am also finding I have gone off sweet stuff and teas, so any kind of soup or broth really works well for me
Thanks everyone I’ve asked hubby to get some mint tea also the ginger tea
hopefully it’ll settle the reflux too ( never had that before all this)
my usual coffee is unbelievably disgusting although I’ve tried latte toffee nut today and it tastes okayish better then anything else I’ve tried so far
veg soup is a great idea
hope your all doing okay and SE aren’t too bad for you xxx
Thanks again Margaret your so so helpful always I never thought of jelly and ice pops/lollies great idea it’s worth a try
ive got a water bottle with times on the side to help me make sure to drink but the thought of it hitting my stomach ( even now day 6 ) I just dread it ( think I need to toughen up
Stop being a whimp)
i will speak to my chemo team and ask for advice thank you so much xx
