Hello
Has anyone had anemia before starting chemotherapy and what was done about it?
I'm very worried as it says on internet it can mean the breast cancer is in my bones. I dont feel the usual symptoms but my inner eye lid is pale
Thanks
Xxx
Don't know if you have a date to start chemo yet but If it is soon and you think you may be a little aneamic (low red blood cell count) give the unit a ring and they may give you a blood test to check this out for you beforehand.
Other symptoms of aneamia is feeling really fatigued, getting easily breathless and a tad pale all over, possibly dizzy, leg cramps etc

Hi Charlieandlola I didn't have anaemia diagnosis but was shocked my pre blood reading was low for iron. I also googled and panicked about bone link but the nurses never said this. They said worst case if it went lower through treatment i may need blood transfusion but that never happened . It did go lower but I managed to border line scrape through.
I don't eat meat but do eat fish so weekly salmon plus hubby made me boiled egg and glass of orange every morning to help iron absorption. Though I could have thrown it at him some days it was very sweet !
I've since found out i had undiagnosed celiac for years after endoscopy beginning of this year so I think that contributed. Hope it helps a bit I'm sure all will be well my chemo was never delayed through it but even so there is always a plan to sort things xx
Whatever else you do ….keep away from Dr Google ……..there are lots of causes of anaemia , not just " iron deficiency " ….so ignore the know it alls that tell you to eat steak , take vitamins etc etc and ASK your team . They will give you the right information and how to help …….Ceoliac disease need careful monitoring , you might need to see a specialist dietician , but as you said it was at the beginning of the year I assume you have had good advice ? Best wishes and Merry Christmas !
