Hi all

I know this is a minor irritation but I have a couple of questions.

I had a lumpectomy 4 weeks ago. Around the scar, about the size of the Palm of my hand, there is a hard solid lump. There is no redness or temperature but there is pain. But it is not tender to touch.

The second is I've had lererozele for two weeks. I went down for repeat prescriptions and a sick note and my doctor hadn't had notification of me having BC. So couldn't prescribe the letrozole. I've picked up prescription today and he's given me a three week supply. Does he think I've nothing to do for the next five years but sort prescriptions!

Laid here wet through and just a bit peed off.

This predictive text isn't helping.

  • How very annoying ! I would complain to the practice manager. Quite apart from the inconvenience, the expense of an extra week is significant, if you are still paying for them they should at least give you a month.

Ragarding the lump, it is probably. scar tissue, but you should get it checked. Could be infected even without redness or fever.

    Good luck xxx

Hey cancer patient, surely free prescription. I'm 62 so don't pay anyway. Pharmacist said I had to take it up with GO.

  • , I had to laugh at the last part of your post..... does he think I've nothing to do for the next '5' years!!!.  Owww welcome to the crazy after care party!!!!

First, I am thinking the same as , I think it is scar tissue from the wound healing. I had a 'line' of 'hardness' underneath my skin along the operation site.  I was worried and was told it was natural, it is scar tissue and to massage the area and it will slowly break down and go away (not sure if the massaging breaks it down, or the body breaks it down... maybe it's both).

Well, nearly 2 years on (where have these 2 years gone to wow) - the hardness as virtually all gone, I still have an area in the centre of the scar line. Keep an eye on it, if you notice redness, swelling, etc I think you would be wise for peace of mind to get it checked out.

Now then as for the letrozole.... , when diagnosed with BC - you are/should be given a form to fill in, it is valid for 5 years - for free prescriptions, regardless of age.  You are medically exempt from prescription charges.... only once you have filled the form in, they send you a plastic exemption card, the same size as a credit card.

Now back to prescriptions, I have been prescribed with '28' tablets per pack.... 1 pack!! This will get confusing now.....

I have to take prescription 'in' to the Doctors, as I don't trust both Pharmacist or Receptionist to get this right, so I take prescription in, we have to allow for 3 days for doctor to do the repeat prescription. (3 days).  Now the Pharmacist does not keep my tablets in stock as has to order them, this takes a day on top of when I take prescription in (so really you could say that is 2 days).  and because I am desperate not to run out of tablets' I try to take prescription in to doctors a day or two earlier (2 days) ; this all said, lets not even talk about weekends.  So my 28 days worth of tablets have to start all the cycle all over again due to the hoops I have to jump though starts 20/21 days from picking the prescription up.....

I will say, I struck gold with the one doctors receptionist .... she changed the quantity from 28 tablets per pack to 30!!! yahhhy, yahhy!!

Why oh why can't I be given, lets say 3 months supply, 6 months would be fantastic - after all I don't have to pay for the tablets, I have to take them for '5 years' - so why can't they do this.

The anxiety I get waiting to see if my prescription is correct and more so when the pharmacist orders my tablets - sends me on such a stress journey.  I have even had to have a melt down with one female in the pharmacist, I heard her say... this brand is cheaper, give her that one..... I had to say, 'you don't have to live with the side effects, its is bad enough going thought this without you pushing your nose in!!!!'

Sorry, I went on and on then.... I want you to be aware of what you might come up against and reading the you only had 3 weeks supply... you could be, but, lets give benefit of the doubt, maybe your doctor is waiting for confirmation in writing etc.

Right, its now nearly 2:00 am - I'm going xxxxx zzzzZZzzzz

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x
  • Hi , maddening isn’t it, we’re taking horrible tablets that we have to fight for! I think it’s just the wheels of the NHS grinding very slowly, my GP wouldn’t prescribe my anastrozole at all until the letter came through from the oncologist, which took nearly 2 months. I had to text the oncology nurse who sorted out my second month’s supply, which I had to pick up from the hospital pharmacy. Fine as I have a car and was driving again by then, but would have been disastrous if I wasn’t able and had no one to collect it for me. Having said all that, it now works like clockwork, I request a repeat prescription online and collect it from my local pharmacy. You just don’t need the aggravation on top of all the trauma of early days on the  cancer merry-go-round.

Hopefully once all the letters are through, you’ll have an easier time. Why these things are not communicated electronically at the time of the consultation I don’t know, it beggars belief that we are depending on paper letters and the vagaries of the postal system to access what are potentially life saving drugs!!! Hi this is one of my bugbears!!  Dizzy face

Reinventing the wheel...the NHS decided repeat prescriptions were an issue and to save time and energy, a visit to the practice was not needed and so said time, energy and money was put into an awareness campaign getting us all to order via pharmacy....and then decided repeat prescriptions were an issue and a visit to practice is necessary.... Siiiiiiigh!

You can still do this online which is ridiculous...sweeping generalisation but lots of older folk and sick folk requiring on going repeat meds will not have access on line or trust it and may not be able to physically visit practice etc.

Yes....some repeat meds need reviewing but lots are long term or forever!!!! I am sure folk who can't jump the hurdles just don't get them.

A pal who works struggles so much to get through to surgery, and then to get an appointment ( to request repeat!!!) and then get time off work for the appointment!!

OK rant over except to say...really? Your GP is not up to date with your cancer process ?????

Then again, neither was mine until I made a post surgery appointment!

    Take care

  • , I too get very anxious re repeat scrips, though my chemist is very, there have been glitches in the past which freaked me out. Part caused by the surgery.
