Morning guys, can I ask if anyone is on calcium tablets. I was given them on prescription when I first started my Letrozole in February, I've continued to take them as my calcium reading was so low. I've suffered joint pain on Letrozole and Anastrozole and I'm going on Thursday to be put on Tamoxifen. I've just had a horrible thought, it won't be the calcium tablets will it? Can that cause joint pain if you have too much.
Hope everyone's well xx
Hi Karen, my wife is on calcium, magnesium, vitD and Letrozole, Been on Letrozole for a while and played the game of brand hopping that people reported on here as some people feel that one brand is much better in terms of side effects than some of the others.
I am not a medical expert but looked up some of the patient information leaflets for calcium, this one for instance under uncommon side effects says:-
too much calcium in your blood (hypercalcaemia) – the symptoms include nausea, vomiting, lack of appetite, constipation, stomach ache, bone pain, extreme thirst, a need to pass more water than usual, muscle weakness, drowsiness and confusion.
Are you seeing a doctor on Thursday? Do talk to them about this, I would guess they would want to check your levels again anyway.
Just last month when my wife was admitted to hospital they stopped giving her the calcium, magnesium and vitD, then they ran their own blood tests and found she was low on calcium, magnesium and vitD, what a surprise we would never have guessed.
<<hugs>>
Steve
Sorry I can't really help but I'm confused about calcium tablets. I saw a different oncologist than usual on Friday and as I take a bisphosphonate tablet he was surprised I wasn't on them and gave me a prescription. Is everyone else on a bisphosphonate taking them another tablet to take do I need it.
Hi all
This is very interesting ..I'm on a combined vitD and calcium as my vitD was low in February but was told although now normal just keep taking it ..I was on tamoxifen from Feb to June then changed to femara ..I also read on here to take glucosamine sulphate which I've also taken since June ...had my bloods checked before starting femara and magnesium level was normal ...I'm having a review in two weeks and my GP is great so will ask him what he thinks ( he's also Macmillan trained) I ache if sat for a while but was anyway ..it's such a mind field out there !! I just hope everyone who started on these drugs has had a bone density scan as a base line
Hugs and Rainbows
Debs xx
Rainbows make me smile inside and out...think what makes you smile? Hold onto it xxxx
Hi Debs, it is a minefield isn't it. I too was on vit D, strong dose to start with then one tab a month up until now. I've just kept getting the calcium tablets on repeat and it wasn't until yesterday I thought can you have too much. I'll speak to them on Thursday when I go. I've never had a bone density scan though, but they did mention it when I first got put on tabs.
Thanks for replying
Xx
Hi optimistic, I'm on Biphosphate intravenous every 6 months, I was due my second one next week but because I've had to have a wisdom tooth out its been put back to October. I just thought might I be having too much calcium, but I will ask on Thursday. I think because I'm moving from Letrozole/Anastrozole now to Tamoxifen is it a case of better the devil you know.
Sometimes I think this is harder than Chemo as you knew what you were up against then.
Take care
Xx
Hi Steve, thanks for your reply. It's annoying isn't it. I did read those side effects which made me think what if I was ok on Letrozole or Anastrozole and it was the calcium causing my joints to ache. But the pain has been quite bad, it's eased a bit but I've not been off them a week yet. I suppose I'm just worried now as to the side effects with the Tamoxifen.
Take care, hope your wife's ok
Xx
My calcium levels get checked the week before my biophosphonate infusion Optimistic and they have been fine. They will put me on supplements when I need it.
xx
Karen
Thanks toxophilite now I'm wondering if I need them it's all so confusing don't want to take what I don't need x
Worth asking them to do the tests. If they won't at the hospital then ask your GP.
xx
