Good Morning All, I wonder if anyone could give me some advice please? I am having a Colonoscopy on 22 March and have been sent two pesseries (did I spell that right?) to be inserted an hour before my appointment, the only problem with that is that it's going to take an hour to get to the hospital! Does it HAVE to be an hour before or is just a means to empty the bowel? Also I read somewhere, not sure if it was here that it's a good idea to stick to certain foods a couple of days prior to the appointment, can anyone advise what food to eat? I am absolutely petrified, not of what they might find, I'll deal with that if and when, but of the procedure. Does it hurt? AGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi,
I didn't have pessaries, I had to take Klean Prep which is a yucky laxative powder which you add water too, and have to drink tonnes of. V. unpleasant. But helped along if you add a bit of lime cordial to it and drink it with a straw.
Anyway, your experience will be different to mine. Whilst I'm afraid the colonoscopy was all a bit uncomfortable, it's only for a short while. It's all over v.quickly. The nurses and the Consultant were fantastic in helping me through. And, making sure I was ok. So, I'm sure you'll be in good hands. It was more uncomfortable and a bit undignified then hurting. And, some of it was quite interesting - looking at the video of what is inside you. If you are of curious mind! They'll give you a sedative during the procedure which helps. But do get some food down you afterwards fairly soon (light non-bloating food). I had to stay in hospital but that's just precautionary due to my particular case, and I didn't get any food for ages and my blood pressure then went right down.
Make sure you have someone to take you home afterwards as the sedative really does whack you out. I naively thought I could go to the cinema or the pub to meet up with my friends. But, nay, I went to bed at 8.30pm and slept through until 7.30 am the next day. What does really help afterwards is if you have tummy ache, or feel a bit bloated is to fill up a hot water bottle and rest that on your tummy. Works a treat!
Hope this helps...
Thank you Libertyloo and Knicnic, both really helpful replies and so far I haven't come across anyone that has said it hurts so you've both put my mind at rest now, I can put up with being uncomfortable for a while. Great advice to about what food to eat after, shall look up on the net for unbloatiness foods! Might also eat that a few days prior to the procedure. I KNEW someone would have great advice!
Hi,
I know this is very very old, but I started having symptoms identical to yours last month and have just had a pelvic and transvaginal US with a non urgent follow up call scheduled for mid August, so guessing they haven't found anything at all.
Just curious to find out what happened with your diagnosis and what the issue ended up being?
