Has anyone experienced long term cognitive impairment following chomo. After having surgery in May 2024 and completing 6 session of chemo. I am still suffering from post chemo, especially fatigue, difficulties concentrating, brain fogging and difficulties multi-tasking 18 months after completing chemo.

I am wondering how long this will continue

  • Hi Chris

I am sorry that you have not yet had a response to your post but sometimes it can just take a few days longer for someone to see it and reply.

Hopefully by me replying it should bump your post and bring it to the attention of someone who is experiencing similar.

I am sorry to hear that you are having some longer term effects from your chemo.

My own chemo was for a different cancer in 2022 but it did take sometime to start feeling better afterwards. I had some fatigue for around a year before it started to improve. I definitely noticed some chemo brain to begin and I was told that it was not unusual to have some lingering effects. I would say that from memory I started to feel better at around 6 months and much more myself at around 12 months.

After my treatment I continued to have check ups with my CNS every 12 weeks for 2 years. I had support for the side effects at these. I wonder if it is worth contacting your oncology team/ or even GP to have a check up/routine bloods. I needed a blood transfusion as chemo left my haemoglobin levels low and that contributed to the fatigue.

I hope that things start to settle soon for you.

    Jane
