Its been 3 yeears since my operation. Bowel still not working right. I have to take Loperamide daily.
There’s a things called LARS - low anterior resection syndrome - which might be worth researching? I had the op back in 2016 and still take loperamide on a daily basis. Once you’ve had a piece of bowel removed then everything travels through more quickly meaning that less liquid is absorbed so the loperamide slows things down a bit. My bowel is still erratic but I’ve had to sort of learn to live with it? I know if I have something spicy or a large meal then I will have several visits to the toilet throughout the evening. If I have stomach ache then I know I’ll probably have a big clear out and then be ok for a couple of days - it’s unfortunately an unwelcome after effect of the surgery.
