Morning Cranagh
I've had 3 now, initial diagnosis & yearly 'follow ups.' I'm at the 'whimp end' of any pain threshold scale and found all 3 fine, 2 with sedation and one without. TBH I find the prep drink worse than the procedure. The staff are uniformly excellent, professional/ friendly and used to dealing with all people and their concerns; you'll be in good hands.
Hope everything goes as well as possible.

Hello Cranach, I couldn’t have sedation because I was high risk, I went on diazepam for anxiety after on a small dose but it is addictive. But if it just used in the procedure although I didn’t find it to bad, I would preferred to have a bit of sedation. Wishing you luck
Just home from pre assessment nurse took one look thight I was going to pass out nervous for better if me but she did on my notes with my anxiety over so any years consultant had previously said I would be sedated nurse said for me gas and air would not be sufficient a she seen ones like me before tense anxious etc Abd said I should do for IV sedation works quicker and less side effects abc she said covid can’t stop
me getting IV so am to ask why I haven’t been told I could get IV sedation aM sick all evening shecsaid I can look into anxiety counselling and it could be linked into ptsd as have had loads of procedures colposcopy in my teens with no offer of sedation and alL painful shevenauling consultant told me go to procedure but so for nothing less than IV sedation and hope this be start of better experience with signioscopy I
I have been told gas and air is enigh but joe assessment nurse said I couldn’t manage and said should be getting IV Valium dies it help ? Im
In two minds to go on Saturday as consultant wint change his mind and give me anything more than gas and air even though my own doctor and assessment nurse emailed him and asked for sedation I get up in the morning and all I think about is this procedure it has taken over me this week and I don’t no when it will end
I have had 2 colonoscopy and had diazepam and midazelam iv for both and don't even remember having the procedure. It was completely pain free and although I was told I would not be asleep I was. The prep is the worst bit the actual colonoscopy is fine
That is what my nurse said to get but the consultant saying no he said gas and air will be enough but I just need it IV
To be honest unless it's contraindicated for you to have an iv I'd stick to my guns and demand it. It's stressful enough without additional worries. Ask the consultant his reason for his decision as he may have a very good reason but if not be stubborn on the iv
