I seem to have cancer that has spread from my bowel to a gland near my clavicle.
Found out today!
They are suggesting two forms of chemo.
What I want to know is how bad can it be and what is the most optimistic prognosis.
Hi
Really sorry to hear that . It is quite an unusual spread , I can’t help with the actual prognosis aspect but in terms of handling cancer that has spread we did research what the most advanced approach to treating the area my mum’s tumours revealed themselves in . Is it the supraclavicular nodes ? I used pubmed search engine as I find it a bit better for the medical research articles ( but only if you want to and able to handle the truth ) . We looked to see what surgical and radiotherapy options were available and looked to see the criteria attached to these and where they were being carried out in the U.K. . For my mum we found it best to link in with a centre of clinical excellence for the liver in another city . Getting informed help advocate for the consultation to see what their clinical opinions were that help us see what options were open to her .
However starting with chemo we later found out was actually a great plan as it not only allows the visible disease to be tackle but also reign in any micro disease that might be around !
To put that into context my mum had reactionary lymph nodes on her ct prior to chemo but after chemo there was not one cancer cell found in them .
My mum’s prognosis was actually pretty dire back in 2009 as there was not half the options available now yet here she is still doing well . She looked for and took the windows of opportunity.
Someone else posted tonight about their dad having nodes on their neck and the oncologist discussed radiotherapy options . You might like to link in with them .
Whilst nodes from bowel cancer may not routinely go to that area other cancers do and I would overlap there treatment options to see how they treat them .
I only mention all this as you sound like someone who wants to get straight to the heart of the problem . If I am wrong , apologies and don’t research as it’s a process that takes time .
Difficult day but I remain optimistic. My mum has seen off ten liver mets , bowel primary and a lung met .
take care ,
Court
