Hi All,

I have been looking at books that give advice on keeping a healthy gut, which foods are good and what to avoid, its a complicated subject especially regarding fibre and one i need to get further advice on following colon resection, after all we all want to improve our eating habits after going through major surgery, does anyone have any advice ?

What each body needs is so specific to you but since surgery and through chemo my fruit of choice is red grapes, I eat a couple of bunches a day. They have a good balance o the right sugars and fibre and are known liver cleansers. I also drink fresh lemon in boiled/filtered water 6/8 times a day. Some people hate it (someone told me it tasted like Grannies (??!!) but again is a good cleanse and refreshing.

Still eat the odd bacon sandwich because....

Have more than halved my wine consumption.

  • I found the penny brohn website very helpful and I recently joined one of their zoom nutritional sessions . I take religiously every morning a live bacteria called Symprove - it’s not a cheap option and the original flavour doesn’t taste great ( don’t go for the mango - added sugar) I think the idea is anti inflammatory foods are a way forward .

Same here! Following my anterior resection I have been very very cautious about all the food I eat. I always thought I was healthy but I now know that my diet did not contain enough fibre and perhaps too much sugar! I have a highly rated book ordered (Anti cancer) on the way which I look forward to reading.

I have bought a really good juicer to juice up veggies and fruit to include during the day. Lots and lots of water, wholegrain instead of white or processed etc. I also keep a journal of what seems to work to make my bowels work well and regularly. A small portion of muesli and plain yoghurt in the morning seems to be working nicely. Beans, seeds and nuts also contain good amount of fibre so I have been looking into recipes to try and include these. It's a learning journey!

    All the best, take care.

Love fresh lemon! Always in my water and squeezed over much of what I eat.
