Survived the main bowel cancer removal op on 3rd December plus a secondary adjustment op a week later - struggled to keep food down since, and have an anti sickness steel cage through my nose into my stomach - assured it would improve but after three weeks now on anti-biotics too
Most staff have been lovely especially the lady who helped get my wifi going - bar a few idiots including a patronizing male specialist who calls me son and Luv, one nurse who had to sit in with me getting upset when I told her to please switch off the boom box she fetched in with her - she couldn't grasp why inviting me to pick a tune from it wasn't enough to let her pass her time with me just doing her own thing.
One nurse gave me an NHS memo telling me visitors were allowed at the hospital as Covid restrictions were being relaxed. When I queried it as ni visiting times were mentioned staff saw that no such memo had been released or seemed to exist anywhere else - She admitted she was wrong when questioned - heard her mocking me for my concern for my mum who, not being even in the same city as me, worries to death about me - hardly a Norman Bates & Mum type relationship
Nurses who walk off mid conversation, endless promises of just be a few minutes, tendencies to ignore call for assisttance buttons for up to 40 minutes at a time - tendency to avoid tasks starting near change - over shift endings to burden inming staff with them, shrrieking equipment alarms due to doses running out or trapped lines ignored - other patients i've met, many worse off than me healh wise are great people and the support team are great, stomer training, physio, three cat scans, daily specialist briefings
Another moron when my Mum phoned asking about me, told her I was in the discharge room waiting for a lift as I was coming home that very night - even my mum knew he was talking rubbish. I later met another patient he did the same thing to the same day, minutes before or after doing it to me
I am sorry to hear about your experience in hospital recently. Presumably you are home now & are recovering well? Obviously, we all have our stories to tell of our personal experiences following any operations/ procedures. I have to say that my 3 day hospital stay, following a left Hemicolectomy in May '19 for Bowel Cancer, was very easy - owing to the kindness of all those that were involved in the process,/ on the ward, whom I have nothing but praise for.
I'm wishing you a good Christmas, & a speedy recovery.
Sorry to hear that too and hope you are recovering well at home .
Just been looking at the therapeutic relationship staff are supposed to foster with my niece as part of her course . How you address people should be respectful and something they are comfortable with . Part of generating trust and professionalism. What should not be acceptable at all is to mock a patient and particularly within ear shot ! I had a case load myself for ten years and I would say some were more challenging than others but all were treated with respect . I always addressed them by their surname unless they gave me permission to use their first name .
Once or twice I did flinch when in with my mum . I ignored it but I personally found it unprofessional. However despite that they were very caring and my mum was satisfied which was the priority .
Life is just to short . Put it behind you as best you can and focus on your wellbeing and recovery.
Take care ,

Sorry to hear that! Not good to hear after such a major operation. I have my op lined up for 11th January. I am told they cannot inform me yet of the actual (London) hospital as things are all over the place at the moment, due to covid etc. I have only been in hospital to have my 2 boys so I am actually dreading it :( Still, i am very grateful that things have moved very fast for me. Take care, I hope things improve for you and good to hear your support team is great, that's whats important.
still in the hospital - no discharge date set yet
