Pain, nausea and burping

I have suddenly developed these symptoms after over four years being relatively well

I had lower resection and 3c rectal cancer . Stoma reversed six months after initial operation.

I have had troubles eating anything not plain since and ongoing toileting issues but these new symptoms

are becoming an issue. Nurses are so busy with COVID and new patients I don’t want to be bothering them

if I don’t have to.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

  • Hi Beigefodder

Following my sigmoid resection i concentrated on eating high protein food, scrambled eggs, fish, chicken, cheese and some protein shakes, i was lucky and didn't have a stoma so i'm not entirely sure of the effects on this.

Following surgery in September i just took paracetamol for pain and that was it however, i have developed joint pain,  heart burn and very sore feet while having chemo tablets, now on a weeks rest while feet recover.

I think that drinking plenty of water, probably 8 to 10 pints a day with orange or lemon juice has helped with the sickness and if possible eat plenty, small amounts at a time if necessary but i do think it helps.

It's probably trial and error with burping, possibly a type of food that has this effect but i would suggest you still contact your nurses for further advice, good luck

    All the best TG

    Thanks for reply

I eat small amounts though often nothing as I get pain after eating so may be part of the problem

I drink water lots! But also on levothyroxine now and pregabalin for nerve pain so not sure what’s what anymore ? Joy
can’t eat dairy or anything spicy including garlic since operation

protein shakes may be worth a try

weird how it’s suddenly come on though as been eating same since treatment

  • Hi,

It is rather strange after such a long time but our bodies are a complicated structure, i would definately ask your nurse or doctor for advice.

Btw, my protein shake is 96% milk

  • Firstly, you should not be worried about consulting somebody if, as you state, you have new troubling symptoms.

My advice would be to contact your GP first.

    Best wishes

  • Hi ,

I was thinking the same about your GP being there for you still .

Might be worth seeing what they think . My mum developed something similar , hers was acid reflux but the GP wanted to know about it .

    Take care ,
