Do you mean after surgery ? My mum ended up with two hernias but a bit higher up I think !
One is very sizeable and she has to watch her clothing . They show up on her scans , sometimes with more fluid in them than others but they are never strangulated or problematic although she hates them . She has had them for so long now and I think she had so much abdominal surgery they decided to leave well alone .
my husband has had multiple abdominal surgeries And did develop a hernia mid abdomen much like your mom. I’m wondering if this new pain and swelling he has developed into his right groin and scrotum is related to his colon cancer which they have told us is no longer treatable or operable. He also has tumor growth you can palpate in his lower right abdomen. He is under hospice care and using liquid morphine to treat his pain which is increasing. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this same thing.
So sorry , I totally understand now . That sounds very rough for him . Sounds as though his right abdominal area is under a lot of pressure . My mum’s popped out due to post op fluid when her abdominal wall was compromised. Would it be worthwhile asking his previous surgical team to assess? Given he has a high tumour burden in that area I guess it is a possibility to have pockets of fluid too. It sounds very sore and uncomfortable. You also sound very wise !

Yep I ended up with an I/H almost directly above the site of my resection within a month of the original surgery. I went to see my GP and got myself listed back to the same surgeon, she did a great job as far as I was concerned. She advised waiting a few months for all internal healing to complete. Hernia repair was done using 'gauze' as a day case; no matches missed at Anfield, no pain relief needed, ( I'm a confirmed life long whimp)- Miss McNicol worked her magic again.
If you have an I/H get referred, don't suffer alone it , it ain't going to fix itself. Hope all goes well, if you have aby questions feel free to ask
thank you for your kind concern for me. I haven’t been able to find a way to describe my feelings. So much has been happening in my world that I’m just running on auto pilot. Thankfully we have good family, friends, and spiritual support and I’m not afraid to lean on them. I will keep in touch. Maybe what I share about my husbands symptoms will help someone else through this forum.
Hi Dogmomma, yup I developed an IH and parastomal hernia days after surgery. I've lived with them for 6 months and have a review booked after the next 6 months to see how things have gone. My surgeon doesn't rate any form of belt to keep them at bay, but I have to say for comfort purposes, I do find a belt for the PH of help. Good luck with yours... these little things are certainly an extra test for us ;-)
