My partner has an appointment at last on Tuesday. He has bowel cancer and secondary liver cancer what should I expect from the first appointment. Macmillan nurse has filled out a Ds1500 for us.
Hi
I hope everything goes well tomorrow. I will be very honest it was probably the hardest appointment. Not sure if it was because the enormity of the situation caught up with us but after we got over that it was fine .
They discussion surrounded the treatment proposed and covered the main side effects a person might encounter . They went over the procedures of the treatment centre . Took bloods and her weight etc .
The other thing my mum said at the start of the meeting was she did not want to know her prognosis but would be happy for their clinical judgements on everything else . It is worthwhile thinking about if that information is desired or if they already know it fair enough .
Once this appointment is over and a better understanding of the process it was quickly onto treatment and felt as though it was moving along at last .
How are you coping ?

My hubby was diagnosed last January with this (Stage 4 for him). I think it's just around understanding what treatment he will be given and what the potential side effects are. There's a list of questions (on this site possibly) of things you might want to ask which I found quite helpful. I will be interested to know what treatment they put him on. My hubby started off on 5FU and Avastin which worked for just over a year and they've now switched him to Folfox and Vectibix but it varies from person to person and the nuances of the cancer. Happy to help if you have any other questions.
