When do you start with this, I've never felt so terrified. Tumour is on my cognition, language area. Typing is a trial. Only found on last Thursday, MRI and CT tomorrow and then MDT meeting Thursday morning followed by telephone consultation. Can't do it in person because of COVID. Feeling like the worse week of my life!

  • I am so sorry to hear that and the covid situation is completely complicating everything . It is very frightening news however if you pop over to our friends on bowekcancer uk forum and search back a few threads in the stage four section you will find a few people who are further ahead of you 6months to a year ahead in some cases . Given its solitaire they do normally have a Few different treatments and you will see that in the discussion from surgical removal to directed radiotherapy . I am going to see if our friend has a minute to find the thread for me as she is very good at that sort of thing and I am particularly bad !
I can totally appreciate the area affected is making it very difficult to type here but just want to assure you particularly when support through the normal channels is limited just now that we are completely here for you as you navigate your way through this .

My friend was diagnosed with several brain mets from a lung tumour. She has had a bit of a set back as they tried to double her dose of medicine to length the duration of hospital treatment due to covid but she is on the whole finding her feet and just had another encouraging scan .

I think it would be very encouraging for you to see how they have coped over on the Bowelcancer Uk thread , not just to give you insight into the two different approaches but also the procedure and recovery . It may help reduce the fear from the unknown but they are also doing well which might shine a bit of hope into this situation.

  • Hi and sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis. Spread to the brain is not unheard of but as has suggested it is worth you having a look on the Bowel Cancer UK Board as there has been some threads about it on there.

There is a link below to the Stage 4 section of the board and if you type in ‘brain’ in the magnifying glass box at the top right of the page then it will bring up the threads and replies. You can of course start your own new thread and if you want to tag anyone in then it’s like on here with a @ in front of the name and a pop-up will appear at the bottom.

I hope they are able to come up with a treatment plan for you - please keep us posted

    Hi everyone,

, the good news is that I have one isolated tumour, no further spread. Looking at surgery next week. Hopefully a clean removal with no radiotherapy needed afterward, we'll see. CT scan showed some miniscule cells in one lung and similar to the back of the abdomen, will be looked at once brain issue is resolved.
I think it seems I'm at a point where I will be under close scrutiny indefinitely now and deal with what comes my way, taking the positives and making the most of everything I have. The other good news was liver still clear! The joy of a clear liver!
Thank you for pointing me towards the bowel cancer S4 community on BCUK, a massive help

What a difference a week makes!

  • So , so pleased to hear that . All the very best with your surgery . The lung issue was the most straightforward one for my mum. Home two days later and never had another issue .

It sounds as though you have a good clinical team where you are . That has served my mum well over the last 11 years . They have a robust scanning protocol and quick intervention. It’s been quite incredible.

Glad you could link in with others too . Getting the right support at the right time makes the world of difference.
Looking forward to hearing your safely through surgery and back to wellness .

    take care ,
