Hi

I was wondering if anyone had experience this. I have stage 3 rectum cancer. I started radiotherapy and finished  my course last week . One of my side effects is incontinence. I literally have no warning that I need to wee until I wee. Will this go away or will this be forever now.

Thanks x

  • It does appear to be an issue for some however some of what I have read does suggest you raise it with your team to get the help you need to aid your recovery .
I know chemotherapy / surgery cases issues for my mum and she got referred to a different team who helped her through it and was worth raising with her team .

You might also like to use the helpline .

Really hope it picks up for you quickly .

    take care ,

  • Hi and congratulations on ticking off the radiotherapy box. Did you lay on your front or back for your treatment? I only ask because my friend lay on her back with an empty bladder whereas I lay on my front with a full bladder. She had quite a few urinary problems after and felt like she was weeing bubbles at one point. I lay on my front and felt after treatment that when I needed to go then I needed to go whereas I’ve always been able to hold on previously. I also found that my wee seemed to come out very slowly. The good news is that both of our issues resolved themselves after a couple of weeks and went back to normal. Hopefully you will find the same over time but you could always ring your support nurse if you need a bit of reassurance?

    Take care

  • That’s good to hear . Do you have the 8-10 week wait before surgery now? x
