Hello,
I've just been told by my liver surgeon that I am inoperable. Could anyone recommend a good liver surgeon I could ask for a second opinion? I'm in the London area but I'm happy to go far and wide.
All help is much appreciated

Your profile tells us much about your journey and the different pathways that have been offered to you and it looks like that somewhere along the line you have lost confidence in your medical team and would like an independent second opinion.
You could try reposting your question in our Liver cancer forum Group maybe some of the members will be able to pass on their personal suggestions for a "good liver surgeon"
Getting a second opinion from another consultant whether it be one from your existing hospital or from one in another hospital starts with you having a frank discussion with your GP and or existing consultant to explain your reasons for asking for a second opinion, when you find a consultant willing to review you, the first steps will be for the new consultant will have to apply, with your permission, to your current hospital for copies of all your notes and scans etc., this can take some time and it is possible that whilst all this is happening behind the scenes you may not see to new consultant and then only if he finds something different in the test results.
For information on asking for a second opinion can be found in the information leaflets from
I hope that you find what you are looking for.

You have had to self advocate a lot over the years , your made of strong stuff . I too would want a second opinion especially this month!
My mum got 73% of her liver removed at Edinburgh’s centre of Excellence for livers in Scotland. Her liver has remained clear for nearly nine years since that time . If it was me I would ask for a review from your current scans . We do have corona as well but a bit behind London .
If you google the Liver transplants in Scotland it will lead you right to them . Last time I looked their email numbers were available and I just emailed directly. I sometimes just give them a wee update on mums success .
wishing you every success and well done for your ability to self advocate.
Take care ,

Hi Ian,
Thank you for your reply and your advice. As you spotted, I have indeed been losing confidence in my team over the past year. The communication between the two hospitals is not good and I am constantly chasing and reminding, dealing with so many people to arrange things and then not feeling confident that all bases are covered. I did arrange with my GP for a second opinion referral at the Royal Marsden a couple of months ago but they took a month (with considerable chasing) to come back to tell me they were too busy to look at me. I asked for a private consultation at that stage but no one is coming back to me.
The latest news has thrown me and i'm angry that yet again my Liver surgeon has dragged his feet and now I find myself in the middle of a pandemic!
I hope you are keeping well and thanks again
Hi Court,
Thank you for your reply.
You are a legend on this forum for your support of so many. I hope your mum is well and safe at this difficult time.
I am feeling a bit sorry for myself at a time when so many others are suffering but unfortunately, I don't have time to wait until the storm passes.
Thank you so much for your recommendation, I will certainly be looking into this.
Stay safe
I totally , totally agree with you . Keep pushing . Certainly got lesser demand here at the moment so maybe they will have time to review it .
I think a lot of people are feeling the stress . I wish you every success .
More power to your elbow .
