Hi ,I have just joined . My husband has just been diagnosed with bowel and liver cancer and was at hospital last week and was told it's in his lymph nodes. My heart is breaking seeing him like this. How do others cope?
Hi
Welcome to the forum . I am so sorry to read about your husband . I don’t know just how far spread your husbands disease is but a spread to the liver does not always mean there are no treatment options . Many people are treated with chemotherapy and do so for years . Others respond to the chemotherapy and it opens up other treatment options like surgery or Radio Frequency Ablation . There are many different chemotherapy combinations to treat a spread to the liver . It is a difficult situation for sure but not without hope .
If you click on my user name you can read my mum’s story . It has been over ten years since she was diagnosed with a spread to her liver .
You are at the very difficult stage of diagnosis when all the information is just being pieced together . Hopefully they will put a plan together soon and that can help a lot as you feel something is being done .
For me it was a case of not imagining worst case outcomes but concentrating on each day and the possible benefits of treatment . Keeping your mind where your body is .
You can ask anything you like and we also have a support line where the staff are happy to talk through all aspects from emotional , welfare , treatment etc . We are here to support you both as you navigate these difficult days .
take care ,

Hi Jenny - I'm so so sorry - I'm also supporting my husband through what may be similar although it sounds as though you may have more info to get? The first bit is terrible - such a shock - I felt sick all the time. However it has got easier. I threw myself into finding out as much as I could which isn't for everyone but I found it helpful. I also did alot of reading up on things which really can make a difference - the book Anti-cancer-a new way of life - is really good, not just for physical strategies but talking about the emotional aspect of it too.
Let us know how you get on - you will get lots of support on here
