Hello .

My husband has had surgery for bowel cancer on Monday 17th February 2020 , which we have advised has been successful.

He Is still in hospital as he cannot eat or drink without being sick.

He has been diagnosed with a Paralised ileus.

  • Hi,I’m sorry to hear your husband is so sick.Unfortunately this can happen after surgery on the bowel. When I had it,they put a nasogastric tube down which helped.I hope they can do something to help him and he recovers quickly.Love and best wishes.Jane

HI Jane thank you so much for your reply. They did put the nasal tune in but took it out today thinking he was ok, but he started being sick again and really looks terrible. I am just so worried at the moment as I cant really do anything to help him. Did it take long for it to work for you, as its now 10 days since his surgery.

    Many thanks Love Jude

  • Hi Jude,I’m so sorry your husband is still being sick.I was sick for several days & didn’t eat for 10 days.I would imagine that they might put the tube back down or scan to check everything is ok.The doctor at hospital told me that it’s a very common complication after surgery involving the bowel and the recovery time will vary from person to person.Your husband is in the best place to get sorted with this and hopefully his bowel will wake up soon.I looked terrible when I had it too.I do hope he feels better soon.Love Jane xxx

Hi Jane, Thank you again for getting in touch, the NG tube is back in again and they are giving him IV nutrients to help build him back up.  His CT scan showed no blockage or leakage from the surgery so that's good.  I hope you are fully recovered from your surgery and are now cancer free.

    Love and kind regards Jude

  • Hi Jude,That’s a relief that there is no blockage or leak.Fingers crossed he should start improving soon.I’m recovering very słowly from the surgery ( bladder cancer) Love and best wishes to you & your husband.Love Jane xx
