Hi I'm new to this group and just need some reassurance. I had most of my colon removed in November and just started 4 rounds of chemotherapy 10 days ago. And I feel rotten! Feel as if I have a huge hangover, my mouth is sore and my throat is burning. Food tastes horrible, when I do manage to eat. The anti sickness medicine is making no difference and I don't know how I'll reach the end of this treatment.  I was diagnosed with tonsil cancer in 2013 and underwent chemo radiotherapy followed by throat dissection in 2015, therefore I'm not able to eat a great variety of food anyway. Does this get better as you get into the treatment or should I expect to feel like this for the whole 12 weeks? Also has anyone else had head and neck cancer followed by colon cancer? Just wondering if it was my diet of Fortisip and high fat/sugar diet, (which was advised by my dietician to keep my weight up) to blame!

  • Hi

Oh that sounds really rough . Please speak to your team as there are things they can do to help you . You can get different anti-sickness medicine so if you can’t get a hold of your team please try your GP . My mum had her chemo  dose reduced slightly and you would be surprised what a difference it made to her side effects . Your team will re-evaluate and people do report to having to find the right balance of medicine for them . They are there to help you so please contact them and get some support . There is no point in suffering when you feel so ill . The other aspect that we found hard to manage when my mum felt so sick was dehydration. So I hope your managing to get your fluids in as it can make it all feel worse .

You can also contact our helpline for some guidance . 0808 808 0000 . They would be happy to help chat this through with you .

    take care ,
